I wanted him back for a longgg time, but not sure he really wants to come back.
Be nice to see him back, one that should really never got a way ,but that's the way life rolls.
Staubitz brought heart and soul to a team that desperately needed someone to stand up to the constant bullying. He's hardly irreplaceable. I would've been happy to have him back, but I can't pretend I thought he was any kind of solution.
Ottawa had a very interesting model last year where they either dressed Carkner AND Konopka or benched BOTH of them. Boston saw plenty of them, we didn't see any. Add Neil playing decent minutes, and able to spot in on a top line to send a real message about protecting a guy like Alfie (or Gally down the road) and you have a team that can play pretty dirty but would rather go pure hockey.
Two guys who are substantially meaner and more dangerous than Moen would make an enormous difference to this team. And really give Moen a role he'd be comfortable with. He shouldn't have to face a Lucic. But for almost all the Bruins who act tough cause they have Chara and Lucic and Thornton, Moen's a terrifying guy to end up in a brawl with.
Others have said it, and Staubitz ain't really an outstanding tough guy, much less a sold 4th liner, but if we added toughness Moen would also show more toughness himself.
Bergevin and Dudley have to understand this better than Ghost ever did. Mellanby lived it. Brisbois did something different, and benefited enormously from people who could protect him, physically and in terms of coverage. (Hamrlick took years off him their first year together.)
They should make a good pairing in player deveolpment. I believe in the management. But I need to see some players, they're not in Hamilton. Prust would be a dream. Asham would be a solid move. Never realized what a valuable player he would turn into but I hated how fast we gave up on him.
In my opinion, the way I see it is that the Habs didn't keep Staubitz because they want someone more intimidating. I'm not sure about the playing hockey part.
If the habs sign Parros, then I'll be very confused. At this point, Staubitz is the more effective player at this role.
I actually wouldn't be surprised if it was the case. Somebody posted a quote in which Therrien stated that he wants somebody bigger than the likes of Moen and White. Staubitz is a good fighter, but isn't that intimidating physically. Parros would be a suitable option.

They can go taht route...Scott would be another similar option...or go with a better player like Asham.
As the 4th line, there really wasn't any space for him, specially if we plan on bring in another 4th line player.
Where do you people come up with the idea that Moen is a 4th line player is beyond me. He will NOT be on the 4th line. They don't usually give 4th line players 4 year contracts.

Parros only got some love because of his mustache. He doesn't win much of his fights anymore..
Scott could be interesting because he's a giant as well, so he might make Chara think twice, although I still think Chara would beat him up. But the downside is he's a Dman, and having a useless Dman is never a good thing.
If we go after one pure fighter, I'd go after McGrattan.
I am fine with Staubitz' departure but they better replace him with a more intimidating player or else we'll become Bruins and Leafs' laughstock in terms of team toughness.
I am praying for a legit heavyweight like McGrattan or Parros!

I would say Scott is the toughest SOB in the NHL at the moment hands down !
Bergevin must have seen Scott last year when they were both in Chicago together! He hasn't lost a fight in the past 2 years in the NHL. Please bring this SOB here to kick Lucy's ass!
We were definitely a different team when we got him. Not only did we win some fights, but the opponents now had to show a wee more respect and honor toward our skilled players. Otherwise, they knew we now had an asset who would hold them accountable for such flagrance.
I'll bet even our players appreciated what he brought....especially PK and Pac. I guess they will have to defend themselves again. Sigh!

What are you saying ? You don't know Therrien do you ? He will NOT start a season without atleast one goon on his team. If you had heard him last winter on tv. He kept repeating how the Habs needed two guys like Staubitz.
