Top Offseason Target?

For the purposes of this poll, the Flyers can only acquire one of these players and they are all willing to play for the Flyers. Assume fair trade value and market rate contracts for free agents.

Chose Doan, prototypical Flyer. Won't cost us anything (Nash, Ryan), and will be cheaper and hopefully easier to obtain than Parise and Suter.

Will make Jagr expendable and fill his leadership void, as well as offensive...and add about 150-200 hits as well as size.

3-4 year deal at around $4m/y seems fair

Chose Parise.

While we may have a more pressing need at defense, I'm not sure Suter is someone I want to throw franchise money at. With Parise, you have a player who should theoretically have great chemistry with Giroux and create an elite 1st line with Hartnell.

Parise. Probably just so Pitt can't have him.

I went with Nash Don't think its that feasable, don't think its that important but I do think he would take his game to the next level on a team that can actually win something, or at least compete. I know not everyone agrees but hey...

Don't really see our D changing now tbh, think Carle has gone and we roll with Timonen, Schenn, Coburn, Meszaros, Grossmann with Gustaffson, Bourdon and Lilja as the 6th/7th guys. It's not a bad D on paper, just need to organise...

Suter because I'm under the impression Pronger will never play again, Kimmo has at least a 50/50 chance to retire at the end of the season, and Carle will sign a contract with another team.

I think Suter could take the Flyers shut-down abilities up to a much higher level. They've got plenty of scoring depth on paper just by re-signing Jagr.

Probably true, plus you stand a far better chance of getting Weber if you get Suter But I've always been a big fan or Nash and would love to see him in the orange... Wherever he ends up it's gonna be exciting to see what he can do with a better team round him, it must be really hard to stay motivated when you know your team just isn't up to it.

I would love to get just one of them this off season but it is unlikely. My list would be

Parise
Suter
Doan
Ryan
Nash

And Nash last because I think he would require us to give up the most assets for. I do think Nash/Giroux/Voracek or Jagr would be some great board play and puck possession.

Choosing Suter. I want Parise more but Suter is more of a need and would help the team more. Like others have said they can just resign Jagr if they want to still add offense.

NIL

I think that if Carle is signed at this point there are going to no additions unless a vet bottom 6 is added (obviously a back up goalie as well). If Carle is not locked up they go second tier such as Garrison from Florida.
Nobody on that list is on this roster next year.

To me, Schenn could replace Carle and you sign someone cheaper than Carle. IMO, based on the Wideman deal, he is going to want more than the Flyers will want to give.
So I would go for a Garrison type of player or Carlo Colaiacovo or Chris Campoli. As for a goalie, no Leighton. Johan Hedberg, Chris Mason, Dan Ellis and Scott Clemmensen are options. I wouldn't mind PA Parenteau or a Jiri Hudler.

Give me a little Ray Whitney on a one year deal and let's save that money for Weber next year.

This is why I voted for Suter. Kimmo may not even be able to finish the season considering how broken down he was come playoff time this year.

Signing Suter would also allow Lavy to slash Kimmo's regular season minutes.

People still think Suter's coming here, eh?

He's not worth the $7.5 he'll get, so pass. Easy answer is Parise since we don't have the goods to get Ryan or Nash anymore.

Parise. Sign a lesser d-man (maybe re-sign Carle?) and hope everyone on the blueline stays relatively healthy.

Completely agree with these thoughts on Suter. Good player no doubt but I'm not convinced he's THAT good. Look at how good Carle was when he was playing alongside Pronger a few years ago. Same with Weber and Suter, though I accept Suter is still better than Carle just not $7.5m+ good. Carle will probably get near to $6m on FA... That should probably tell you about the D on UFA this year. I like Carle but he's not that valuable.

The problem is that Carle is pretty much the second best D on UFA. He'll get an overinflated contract because of that. Think we missed the boat with him.

It's a catch-22. Sign Suter to an overpriced contract or sign Carle to an overpriced contract. Which poison do you like more? I only say Suter because I think in the long run he is better than Carle even if he's more expensive and possibly it could lead to Parise and/or Weber in the future depending upon how close his ties actually are with them. Pipe dream, I know, but we're looking at not just this season.

I'd probably overpay for Suter just to try and get Weber, otherwise not get either unless it's an overpaid deal for a D for one year.
