He is. But Yandle is elite as well and he's way younger.

Using points, +-, time on ice and quality of competition, Boyle is better than Yandle. And Boyle is an integral part of the Shark's team (especially on the power play) whereas Yandle would result in a change which would impact chemistry.

And alot of people would argue and say that Boyle is playing on a better team (although Sharks underperformed this year).

Thornton, Marleau, Couture > Doan, Whitney, Vrbata

I wonder if it's easier to get points with group A or group B .

I will say this much though, if the Coyotes do give up a top elite Dman to San Jose, then either Marleau or Jumbo Joe better be coming the other way.
This is exactly what it would take for DM to trade Yandle...

And a of of people would argue Phoenix plays a more defensive system which should favor Yandle's defensive stats, but it doesn't. You can speculate as to points and +-, but there are a number of stats aside from that which should favor Yandle if he is the better play that don't. He will likely put up better stats than Boyle in 1-2 years, but that is irrelevant given the Shark's current focus and Boyle's current value to the team.

Sharks top-6 was better, but the Coyotes had a much better bottom-6 and overall forward depth. They actually played a style conducive to their players, opposed to the passive garbage SJ played.

Sharks get younger, in a pseudo rebuild with great prospects and Phoenix get even more competitive in the short term.
San Jose would need to include Couture or Thorton. And they wouldn't so, no deal. Although, it would give the Sharks one of the best young D corps in the NHL. But Phoneix gets a "train" ran on them, all aboard, take your number and be "ready"

I know if I was Phoenix I would never do this. But I wanted to spark a lttle conversation on age vs potential.

Something more logical would be Yandle for Vlasic and Demers +

Prepare to pay the hell out of your noses if you want Thornton and Couture.

So division rivals trade 3 of their defensemen with each other? Happens all the time

That being said, the Sharks respectfully decline.

I really don't think Phx says "AAAAAWWWWWWWWWW YYYYEEEEEAAAAHHHHHH" to this deal.

I'm sure both sides vehemently say no.

Likewise from SJ.

If it was one for one, SJ would be stupid not to deal Boyle for Yandle, there's no doubt.

But Runblad has a lot of developing to do and Gormley has played, what, 4 games in a professional league? His potential may be there but SJ would be borderline idiotic to hope they (Runblad and Gormley) could step in and replace what Vlasic (#2) and Demers (at worst #5/6 with PP contributions) give them right now.

Regardless of what you think, any calls on Yandle from the Sharks starts with Couture. They turned down a top 10 pick + for him last week, he wont be traded with the organizations top two prospects and two top (I think) 25 prospects here on this site for other stuff, with lower ceilings. So quit trying to justify it.

If this were the worst ever, we'd see a lot more good ones than we do.

Youd have to be crazy to not be a San jose fan and not do this.

I do this everyday and twice on sundays without even thinking twice about it.

Gormley is going to be a better, more offensive version of Vlasic.

Yandle is similar to boyle, but younger and costs less.

Rundblad and Demers are close in terms of Rundblad is better at O but cant play D so i value them similar
