I don't think we want to be trading solid roster players for pick and a prospect. We have a window here, of about 3 years, before we have to resign Staal12 and Ward. Some of our other guys aren't getting any younger. We're not THAT far away. Just need a couple pieces.

The time to do pick-and-prospect was 3 years ago. Now that some of those picks have turned into players (Skinner, McBain), we need to do something with it.

My recollection is fuzzy, but didn't Joslin more or less force JR's hand by refusing to report to Charlotte prior to his current contract? That is, he made it clear that if we wanted to sign him it would be with NHL intentions.

No, he refused to go on a conditioning stint after he signed his contract.
