I can live with one year $3 Million, or two years $4 Million with a NTC. I doubt Tamby would pick up someone more useful given his track record and I still think Smyth is good for 20~ goals. But with Belanger, Horc, etc. I don't want to give up term to older players that will probably have no place on the team in 3-4 years.
Not enough trouble if they are still talking to this clown. Same as when he left. All about a dollar amount he is not worth. Hoping Feaster throws 5 mill a year till his twilight years with NMC thinking he is going to stick it to us.
Well it's easy to throw out Hordy and Harty from the roster BUT that leaves you with what... Ben Eager as the only real sizeable, physical forward option out of the entire lineup of 12 forwards.
Might as well change the emblem to a marshmallow on the front of all their jerseys.
The team knows they need to get bigger and tougher in their lineup to balance the smaller skilled players. They've said as much and they've shown it with the drafting they did a few days ago.
The Oilers need some bigger guys like Hartikainen in the lineup... it's not really an "option" and a goon or semi-goon like Hordichuk is also pretty much a necessity when the rest of the lineup is so soft which other teams will take advantage of.
Smyth himself isn't completely un-physical but he more or less takes stupid penalties when he plays physical.
I can see Smyth in the lineup but I don't honestly see that he's critical when they need to be developing guys like MPS and Harti with NHL time as well.
If he comes cheap enough and leaves his ego at the door and is willing to play ANYWHERE in the lineup that is dictated by his performance and team needs then yes he could be a decent signing... otherwise there are other options that in the short term may look less optimal but in the long run will likely be better.
