Would really love to sign Prust. Good 3rd line player, awesome on the pk to cut down on Zach and Kovys time, will do the gloves. Too bad someone will pay him 3m, likely not us

Good. At least Cam actually brings some energy by skating around 100 miles an hour (doing mostly nothing), but throwing some good hits and scrapping. Boulton might have the tiniest bit more "skill," but he just didn't bring any energy at all.

I meant it in the way that obviously we aren't penny pinching because if we were, Boulton would still be here and Janssen wouldn't

Boulton was probably expected to bring A LOT more, and that's why Lou likely signed him to a 2 year deal. The 4th line in the playoffs made him expendable. Even though the 4th line scored some big goals against Florida in tight games, and games we won by a goal like Carter's game winner in game 1 vs Florida, and Bernier's goal in games 6 which we won by just a goal in OT and 7 vs Florida for Gionta which we won by just a goal in OT. If we lost that series Little Gio might be back in Albany, and we may have wound up having Boulton or Janssen in the lineup every game again like last season.

I think we'll see Cam play in no more than 30 games next year UNLESS there is injury or depth problems in the forwards. No way they spent almost $2.5 million on all the 4th liners to play together only half the games.
You'll see Janssen in a few of the division games and in some other games where guys might need a night or two off to rest something nagging

Good for Cam though.
To think Janssen had more points than Boulton

Just didn't work out here. Great fighter but somehow lost his hockey skills once he came here.

Had a feeling this would happen.

Oh well, I liked him. I hope he still sticks around in the league. Good guy and had some fun moments this year. I loved seeing him wreck Kaberle with a big hit as well as Kris Letang. The battles against Rupp and Prust were fun too and the clocking of Murray and that slugfest against Chris Neil.

Eric Boulton getting paid $500k to do nothing is the best thing that could have happened to him.

Now he can find another GM to pay him another $525k to do nothing.

Or just do nothing for 500k and be happy.

I think part of it has to do with the 4th line getting switched around nearly every game during the season. It can't be that easy to generate chemistry when you're playing with new or different linemates nearly every game. In Atlanta, he was able to be productive because he was always playing with Slater and Thorburn, so he was able to have chemistry with his linemates.

I won't celebrate Boulton being bought out. It's not a positive thing for anyone involved. Just thank him for the year of service, and wish him luck.

Agreed. It's just waste cap money, not that we are going to be at the cap the next 2 years, but still.

Good, was never a big fan of Boulton. Now we can have a 4th line that can play hockey.

So it's a waste of hard currency for no reason.

Gonna miss you Boults, but at least you guys have still got Cam. New Jersey has always been a safe haven for toughness [except the 2010-11 season of which I will not speak].

I think people are blowing the financial problems out of proportion though because if the Devils were in huge trouble, they wouldn't have re-signed Janssen to 575k and bought out Boulton's 750k. They would have kept Boulton and let Janssen walk.

Is it sad that this buyout was expected since before the ink was even dry? Most unnecessary second year ever.

It is now because Boulton makes 250k each year for the next two in buyout money. This is just proof that the Devils financial situation isn't really that grim.
