He isnt going to go to Flames or Habs either. He has 1, maybe 2 seasons left in him. He is going to a contender.

If you ever looked at anything this year about Jagr, it always said something about his work ethic and how amazing it was and how good of shape he was in don't try to make up ******** excuses for the guy, he was hurt for part of the playoffs, not the first 5 games though

I don't know how people are saying he is going to be much better next year. Next year he is going to be a year older. He seemed pretty tired by the end of the season and in the playoffs... no reason to expect he is going to have a better season/playoffs than he did this year.

He was very good until his groin injury. He hadn't played in the NHL in 3 years and was more geared for tank warfare than a dogfight. Now he knows what to expect and will change his training accordingly. I would guess his groin injury limited some of his training. Not expecting him to be "much better" next season, but hopefully healthier, more consistent and stronger at the end.

I just don't think he'd come back for at least another season if he expected it would be a repeat of last season. If Whitney scored 77 points at age 39 and Selanne 80 at age 40 (and 66 at 41), I don't see why Jagr can't score 65-75 points next year.

he was injured. He played through it, and TRAINED through it (rookie mistake)

I expect Jagr to do better, given no injuries, since he plans on losing 15-20lbs. That will make him much faster.

We CANNOT lose Jagr and JvR and expect our offense to be as stacked as it was last year. Jagr (or some very good winger) is a must for us now.

Hartnell-Giroux-Voracek
Simmonds-Briere-Schenn
Read-Couturier-Wellwood

is not as scary a top 9. lets imagine a very realistic scenario:
Briere gets hurt (or anyone in the top 9)

Hartnell-Giroux-Voracek
Simmonds-Schenn-Read
Harry Z - Couturier - Wellwood

I'm just not comfortable with that. Since Voracek, Schenn, and Cooter are so young, what is the reason to not have Jagr back for just 1 more year?

How can we not afford 3 mil (assuming we're not getting parise)

I agree, I think a mix of two things are happening:
1. The Jagr-hater inside fans (from his time with other teams) is getting the better of peoples judgment.

2. This is HF boards, where potential > current ability.
Like in NHL 12, once you turn 40 you're potential becomes a 'D' and you lose 25 attribute points each year

So did Svoboda talk to the Flyers?

I mean Svoboda was a major player last year never had his mouth shut, so I would think we would hear from him if there was any news?

If they don't sign Jagr, they are obviously going to sign somebody on the wing that can play top 6 minutes. Jagr takes minutes away from the younger players on the flyers and I think Voracek would do better than Jagr at this point anyway if he was given top line minutes.

Theres no reason to expect he doesn't have injury problems this year either. Injuries like the one he had last year aren't uncommon for players his age. I'm not saying I don't want Jagr next year if the price is right. I think he's a good guy for the younger players to look up to. I just don't think that he is going to be worth whatever kind of contract he ends up signing.

All silent on the Jagr front?

Svododa was all over the media last year, obviously keeping a very low profile this year...

Word is that there may be a new rule where over 40 year old contracts could not count against the teams cap. That we be announced on the 1st if true. If that happens jagr will obviously want 3+ million a season

Word from whom? The league and PA had a meeting yesterday and nothing was said.

Are there any discussion about this proposed ruling on this board?

I"ve never heard of that rumored rule (40+ contracts don't count) until now. Wow.

Now I'm pretty sure we can't get Jagr back, especially if he wasn't happy with his ice time. What more can we do for him without killing the team.

Well, obviously if there is any truth to it - that would mean a HUGE boost for all 40+ players looking for contracts! I can not believe this will actually be put in place.

He wants a raise AND was disappointed in his declining ice time. Maybe if he'd have played up to par his minutes would have been better. This is just another case of a player who can't accept he's declining. He most certainly doesn't deserve a raise and I hope Homer tells him no thanks.

Also, that's the first I've heard of 40+ year old players' salaries not counting against the cap. Has anyone else heard of this?

Parise had 69 points in 82 games and Jagr had 62 points in 81 games (including playoffs).

Not much of a difference
