You can. I checked "Kovalchuk rule" before posting. You can't have <1M salary.
Not that it changes much, but still...
From CBA
Quote:
50.7 "100 Percent Rule" for Multi-Year SPCs. The difference between the stated
Player Salary and Bonuses in the first two League Years of an SPC cannot exceed the
amount of the lower of the two League Years. Thereafter, in all subsequent League
Years of the SPC, (i) any increase in Player Salary and Bonuses from one League Year to
another may not exceed the amount of the lower of the first two League Years of the SPC
(or, if such amounts are the same, that same amount); and (ii) any decrease in Player
Salary and Bonuses from one League Year to another may not exceed 50 percent of the
Player Salary and Bonuses of the lower of the first two League Years of the SPC (or, if
such amounts are the same, 50 percent of that same amount).
In your offer for Parise salary decreases from 9.5m to 1m, which is more than 4.75m (50% of minimum salary of first 2 years). I believe this break "100 Percent Rule". For instance maximum decrease in Kovalchuk contract is 3m and this is exactly 50% of his 1st-year salary.
What you have to do is add one year with ~4.5m between those years with 9.5m and 1m.

Damn, I've wanted to find a way to get Travis Moen in our bottom 6 for a few years. Foiled again...Tootoo is up next I hope.

Ryan, Beauchemin for Laich, Forsberg, Neuvirth, 1st+ (overpayment but who gives a **** )
Schultz, Erskine waived/traded
Ovechkin Ribeiro Doan
Parise Backstrom Ryan
Chimera Johansson Brouwer
Hendricks Beagle Ward
Alzner Carlson
Beauchemin Green
Hamrlik Orlov
Holtby
Clemmensen
Cap hell, farm gets purged, but if this doesn't win the cup this year might as well find another sport.
This is literally the worst idea I've seen on here. I wouldn't trade forsberg for Ryan straight up. Paying/trading for established stars is an awful way to build a team

Well we did that a week ago with Ribeiro and that solved our 2C issue, that wasn't a bad move. Trading for established stars is how you push a team over the top unless you are rebuilding, which we aren't.

Not by trading away potential stars (and I don't mean Dallas Stars). Eakin and a 2nd is not a ridiculous price for Ribeiro. Forsberg, Laich, Neuvirth, and a 1st+ is beyond ludicrous.

I see one potential star in that package. 1 potential star for one actual star is a good deal when you're in win now mode. I don't make this particular trade for a variety of reasons (and Anaheim certainly doesn't), but we should be looking to make moves to bring in established talent.

Good players on ELCs/2nd Cheap Contracts (Contracts right after ELCs that players sign below market value IE Alzner) tend to be extremely important on teams that make deep playoff runs.

I don't think McPhee is a "give lots of assets for a single guy" type of GM. No, you keep the assets and develop them, then those assets walk for free, so you need to make sure you have plenty of assets. More asset. Moar!!
I also don't think that the Caps have a win-now attitude (and fwiw that may not be a bad thing right now). I think they're big believers in having a solid team that can repeatedly get into playoffs, where "anything is possible". So they're more interested in the low-hanging fruits when it comes to trades, I don't think they'll be parting with top prospects.
So.. no Ryan.. And I'm fine with that, because I think they need to see how the team shakes down under Oates first before doing any blockbuster trades. What's the identity, how's Ovi performing, etc.
What is funny though, is that McPhee has mentioned numerous times recently how he doesn't like going to UFA market, having to overpay and all that. What I want to know, is how of all people to "reluctantly overpay", he chose Ward
