I still think this was a great pick ... this confirms it.

I hope we don't overrate the crap out of him now.

This seems to happen quite often:

We hound the guy as soon as he's drafted ---> Overrate him until he shows up in the minors ---> Call him a bust because his first year in the AHL didn't have him scoring a 2.0ppg ---> Call him untouchable once he shows even the slightest bit of promise in the NHL.

I'm not sure I understand. Are you saying we shouldn't be optimistic about the career of future hall of famer Tomas Hertl? I mean, just because he'll shatter every scoring record in Sharks history doesn't mean we should start being afraid of what his numerous all-star caliber seasons in San Jose will hold. Nor do I think we're getting ahead of ourselves and annointing this sure-fire savior and multi-time Art Ross winner as one of the game's eventual elite.

OK, in the spirit of this post I'd like to make a motion that from this point forward Tomas Hertl be referred to as "FHoF Tomas Hertl" or just "FHoF Hertl" on this forum.

"He has an unorthodox skating style, but is solid, agile and well-balanced on his skates."

The Sharks must feel like they can overcome/fix this obstacle—or hurdle (pun intended obvi).

it's one thing they have shown they can do. Couture, Pavelski, Clowe, and Murray were all supposed to be hindered by sub-par skating. And while none of them would be confused for prime Pavel Bure or Paul Coffey, they're all at least serviceable NHL skaters now.

I have little doubt that they'll be able to iron the kinks out in Hertl's skating stride too.

Sorry, I misspoke. I meant to say that I have little doubt they'll be able to iron out the kinks in future hall of famer Hertl's skating stride too.

Why stop there. I mean he's going to break all of Gretzky's records while being the greatest defensive player the game will ever see, get bored and switch to defense to win 9 Norris trophies, and than switch to goalie and win 3 consecutive Hart trophies on the virtue of never allowing a goal against in the regular season and playoffs.

And then the Art Ross as a goalie.

Hertl will be a bust. That last name won't get him anywhere.

Except with the San Jose Mercury News and their bad puns.

I reckon he'll get traded before he ever takes a faceoff for the Sharks. Gut feeling. It's the Wilson-way...

Future Hall of Famer Tomas Hertl finds your lack of faith disturbing.

The truth doesn't Hertl, unless it ought to.

... I may have slightly altered the nature of that quote somehow...

It was refreshing to see pure joy on a players face, as there was on Hertl's as he was walking up to the stage.

I have a feeling that Hertl will be very good for the Sharks! Just gut feeling, not based on anything else.

The thing that bothers me is in the videos I've seen him in his number has been 19, and in the draft his number was 12.

But then again, with him on board, the team can just as well trade Marleau and Thornton away because he's going to singlehandedly replace them. And more.

I've heard he uses a double ended hockey stick like Darth Maul. Means we can play just 2 forwards and go with 2 goaltenders when he's on the ice...

that wasn't his number. That was because it was the 2012 draft. Every player the Sharks picked that was there got a #12 jersey. They (and a lot of other teams) do the same thing every year. Go check out previous drafts.

Of course, if it's what he really wants, the Sharks will permit him to wear both #19 and #12. That way he can show up on the scoresheet twice when he provides two assists on the same goal.

I hear he's so good he'll be able to switch jerseys on the fly...
