Preds re-sign Gaustad 4 years 13 million.

JoshuaCooper ‏@JoshuaCooper

‪#preds‬ and Gaustad agree to 4-year $13 million deal

Overpayment, but that's free agency.

Boooo

but I'll live with it. I did like him, just hope this doesn't hamper improvements in other areas.

Sabres fan here. We were pissed he was getting 2.3 on the 4th line. Sorry you guys have to watch him suck up 3.25 down there.

As I said in the other thread the best thing about this signing isn't that we got Gaustad per se, but that Poile is NOT going to just dribble into the season with several holes in the lineup and hope that some rookie will step up.

I may be wrong but I believe Poile has been given the green light to swing for the fences....

I am ok with it. We need a few vets on the bottom lines to continue to develop these grinder kids into top 6 grinders.

If our pk is top 10 in due to a large part him, he will be worth every penny. just have to keep him in the lineup

500-750K overpaid, but I guess I'll take it. Especially if Suter leaves, who else will we spend it on?....

Either that or he's just trying to spend money to hit the cap floor. All will be revealed in the next couple days I'm sure...

Overpayment but I'm OK with it ... need his faceoff prowess. Always wondered why Preds never offered Yanic Perrault a position to teach faceoffs.

Interesting comment from the Sabres fan ... most of the Buffalo comments at the Trade Deadline were about how great Gaustad is and that they expected him back July 1. Now he signs with us and he was overpaid in Western NY.

Now Mr. Poile ... go get Parise and lock up Suter

I like Gaustad, but I read this and wanted to point something out. Most Sabres fans assumed we'd resign him because of a lack of confidence in our GM. Not many actually want him, we just sort of assumed (sometime jokingly) that the Sabres would try to sign him back. It's not entirely about Goose though, he's was part of a larger issue with our core.

Anyway, Gaustad is a useful player, and would have cost more tomorrow.

There's a worry about his bum shoulder, so the 4 years is a bit concerning. But the cost isn't too much if you're not up to the cap.

not for a team whose Achilles heel this last season was the PK

this cap floor talk is silly. Poile is either going to re-sign Suter or he'll spend some significant money on a replacement.... I would be shocked if we let Suter go and just say "OK everyone below Weber just bump up a notch"

I can accept this. It's more than I would have liked to pay, but if Goose said "This is it or I'm gone", I'm ok with Poile doing it.

Goose was by all reports good in the locker room and we saw what he provides on the ice. Need him to mentor all our centers on faceoffs.

Yes, more than I would like to see tied up in him, but what does it say about this team if rentals like it enough to sign here? And it shows the franchise does NOT want to lower the bar on the roster. I think the fanbase should see this as a positive sign of how active GMDP intends to be to build a roster to exceed last year's achievements. And maybe a couple of prominent D men will take note as well...

Have you every said anything positive about this team? Ever?

I agree this isn't the best move ever, but seriously, I don't get it. The Kings won because they were deep, so we needed to get some depth. Here it is.

Goose has intangibles - he's faceoff skills were remarkable in the first round of the playoffs and he's reliable. Better 3.25 for him that 4.5-5 on Jokinen.
