A very solid bottom six forward who is among the best at the dot and on the kill. Capable of playing decent minutes if needed. A bit more than I thought we'd be willing to pay him, but, long term probably not that bad of a contract for him.

The two players who were at the point of obviously seeking offers on the open market have both signed.

Martin will be cheaper in both $ and assets of course, but I'd rather have JBo, assuming it costs us no more than Blum+mid pick.

If Suter leaves, I'd love JBo. If we dont get him, let's get Martin. If Suter leaves and Weber is traded because he won't re-sign, hell, trade for both of them.
This is the research that I've done. I've asked both Calgary and Devils fans bout J-Bo and Martin for what they need to succeed.

J-Bo:
"A system that allows the D to jump into the play and rush up the ice (like Vancouver's)."

Martin:
"A structured system where the forwards help out the D and the goalie makes a save on occasion"

With these quotes, I think that Martin would be a better option for us.

So, not to scare anyone, but Gill is the highest paid Dman we have under contract right now

Oh, and Goose is the longest tenured non-goalie.

I didn't think we'd top 3 mil. Rumors were that the Preds were looking for him to take a pay cut. While I never thought for a second that he would, I also didn't think we'd give him 3.25 for 4 years. Hopefully the nagging shoulder injury he had last year is fully healed and not recurring.

Gaustad was great for us in the playoffs and the right guy to have in the locker room. He is overpaid, but he isn't hurting this team with the above commitment.

So what are looking at going into tomorrow?

SK-Fish-Erat
Smith-Legwand-Hornqvist
Bourque-Gaustad-Wilson
Yip-Spaling-Halischuk

(Suter?)-Weber
Josi-Klein
Gill-Ellis

Rinne
?

Probably a top 6 winger, perhaps a bottom 6 winger for depth, a d-man if we lose Suter, and a backup goalie.

I would say a good forward (Parise *unlikely*, Doan, Whitney, PAP, Ryan *trade*, Marleau *trade*, etc.) a good defenseman (Suter *preferably*, Allen, Carle, JBo *trade*, Yandle *trade* or Martin *trade*), a back-up goalie, and a reclamation project.

these moves should tell everyone that we are in "win now" mode.... that we for once are not going to go into the season hoping that three or four rookies will all step up and fill slots...
Thats the way i see it. It is not 40M anymore, it 70M for the same amount of players...

You guys cant expect cap to grow and salaries not...

My dream is the exact same as yours, with Mueller instead of "whoever".

My Reality:
Whitney
Martin
Mason
(Not Latendresse or Mueller)

What do you guys think our chances of signing Parise? I think if we overpay around 7 years 65 million and if that signs Parise, i think Suter would come back and then Weber would resign long term.

realistically they are very low, but you definitely send this people your best offer. I think he'll get something in the 10 years 80 million range...maybe even more.

Realistically, probably no chance. Would love to be surprised though.

Well ... Mark Howard says we aren't on Parise's radar ... for what that's worth.

Mark Howard also said that McDonald's twice a day and parking next to the handicapped spot are the two keys to getting into peak physical condition

Seriously, though, I doubt we are on Parise's radar right now, but things change. I don't expect to get him.

On twitter a bit earlier tonight ... and, "being a member of the TV broadcast team" (if you listen to the Wake-Up Zone you know to what I am referring)

Eklund's latest:

At this point, Suter is still wide open. Minnesota, Detroit, and Nashville gaining IMO.
Nothing really new here ... I guess he thinks the Gaustad signing improves Nashville's effort?

Quote:
if Preds sign Suter, Philly may try & bowl Nashville over w/ mega for Weber offer they can’t refuse...two top six forward, a top 4 D-man, multiple first rounders..
Interesting to say the least .... as much as I love Weber on our team, depending on the forwards and D-man, you have to entertain that kind of offer.

All fun to think about ... tomorrow (or the next couple days) should be interesting

if one of those top 6 is Couturier and we still get all that extra, say good bye to Weber....

that said, Philly would be foolish to do that....

I would take Coutourier, hartnell and kimmo back for Weber. We would be doing them a favor taking kimmo so they can spend money elsewhere and we get 2 top six pieces.

Hartnell-legwand-erat
smith-cooter-wilson
sk-fisher-hornquist
spaling-gaustad-halischuck

suter-kimmo
josi-klein
gill-ellis/blum

purdy darn good team there

Haha potential scenario:

Suter and his wife discuss the top three or four teams in terms of offers and location. His wife says she is OK with all of them, so she leaves it up to him to decide where he wants to go and why. He decides to stay with Nashville. He knows the organization well. He thinks it's beginning to turn into something it has never been before - a team with the ability to spend and be a constant contender. He also likes the idea of being one half of potentially one of the greatest pairings to ever play the game. His friendship with Weber is the tipping point.

Weber is traded to Philly

Doubt it happens, but that would be a kick to the groin

If we are trading Weber we shouldn't have to do them any favors. As much as I like him, Kimmo is on the wrong side of 30. Couts, Schenn/Hartnell/Simmonds/etc and Mez. And I would only do that if Weber absolutely refuses to come back to us.

So Poile is waiting around for Suter now.

Poile put himself in this position.

At least he already has his excuses lined up.
