I find your guarded optimism refreshing.

Yep... bring it on... make it a good one too... to keep this working it has to be some crappy **** like my current AV. It's hard to be to pissed anyway after landing Schultz.

I think the best part is that even though he signed for 2 years as a UFA, he's now an Oiler for years afterwards.

Nice to see those comments from him. Feels strange that the Oilers came out on top.

I told him that Id heard great things about him and liked the way he played. I talked to him as a fan and told him the league needs players like him. I said to him Im tired of hearing we dont have the offensive Canadian guys out there. I know we do. I told him he just had to get to a team where the coach would allow him to play that way. I told him good forwards need a good defenceman to get them the puck and vice-versa and youre not going to get a better group than (Taylor) Hall and (Jordan) Eberle, (Ryan) Nugent-Hopkins and the young guy coming in (Nail) Yakupov, said Coffey.

Jeez man, just having to look at that godawful avy of yours for this long makes my eyes bleed lol...you really should give up betting (on anything). Nothing good has come of it yet.

BTW, when are you 'allowed' to get rid of that ugly thing? Hopefully soon, man, hopefully....soon.

and klefbom and one of marincin musil etc etc
I'd rather have a team full of 5mill salary dmen than a 7.5-8 we cant afford that makes us lose a star forward.

If he signed for 6mill sure, but he won't

I am excited to see what he can bring, and i truly hope he has a good first season...I'm not going to expect miracles because he was signed but I do hope that this is one of those moments where we see the team starting to take a major turn towards relevancy.

SO happy the kid chose the Oilers. Was really expecting him to sign in Vancouver.

Hall, Eberle, RNH, Yakupov, Schultz, Klefbom........we have some really solid young players in this organization! What a treat!

Oilers should still go after a top 3 defenseman (preferably top 2) through UFA or trade.

Great 8 days to be an Oilers fan.....Yakupov + Schultz!

Unreal, we won the sweepstakes for him!!!!!! I know the human instinct is to troll EVERY one of those punks who were trolling us but it's just so much cooler to celebrate with other downtrodden Oil fans. YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

Some gigantic pats on the back for the much maligned and abused management, and newly hired coach Krueger and Hall for lobbying very hard for this kid. Huge high fives to Gretz and Coffey too, who stepped in to put a word in for old friends and alliances. It feels so great to be an Oilers fan today. Man I can't wait for the season to start!!!!!

After reading the 44 pages of the last thread and this, I just have to say that I for one am very impressed with all the great comments from fans of other teams.

This is a great day for the Oilers & my fellow fans.

Sigh. Some guy in the Justin Schultz thread in trades/free agency thinks that the Oilers' defence is littered with prospects that aren't ready yet. Besides Justin Schultz... there won't be any "prospects" on the Oilers' blueline in 12/13.

Nice pickup...glad that worked out the way it did.

Kind of silly though reading how many posters think he is already a top 4 dman at the NHL level. He will likely need next season just to get his feet under him. Having said that Schultz has great potential and they got him for nothing so thats a huge positive in and of itself.

Really its just nice to see the Oilers be the recipient of some positive UFA news for a change.

The team really needs to add a top 4 dman and then this defence should be able to compete next season.

One question about Schultz's status at the duration of his 2 year deal...UFA or RFA?

I believe it's RFA status....because of his age, they account for that and reduce his ELC by 1 year is all.

That makes sense but what threw me off was the fact that he signed as a UFA. I just wasn't sure if there was an additional loophole for players in this type of scenario.

Just until the end of July... but then I have another 3 months with likely another godawful avatar coming. I can't wait to see what that one will be like.

My pain is all our gain though... helped get us Yakupov and Schultz so far.

This has truly brought out the "best" in some of the media that cover this sport.
