Jordin Tootoo ? (upd: signed with Detroit)

I read that he turned down a 3 year deal in Nashville.....He is one player that i always thought would be a nice piece in Philly.High energy grinder that is tough along the boards and can really get the crowd going anytime he is on the ice.
I have got to see the Preds play quite a few times over the years [wifes from Tennessee} and i remember the first time i saw him play i told my wife that he would be a big hit in Philly.....I know there are a ton of Tootoo haters out there, but i would not mind a bit to see him play for our club.Suter and Tootoo for ? LOL

That's Homers job ! LOL.......But i know he would be a fan favorite in short order and pro hockey is in the entertainment business whether folks want to admit it or not ?Tons of Tootoo jerseys at the Bridgestone arena.Reminds me of when i was a lad and go to the old Spectrum and Bob Kelley would bring the place to life whenever he came on the ice.....That cat would set the tone early on,and the place would become electric.Tootoo is one of those type players that remind me of that era in some ways.

this organizations front office and fanbase hardon for stupid hockey players is mind boggling.

You need to realize pro Hockey is entertainment and a business....Folks like Rinaldo/Tootoo/ Schultz, Kelley, Lappy etc bring a special something to the game that make it more than a game in many ways. There is a reason the Flyers have that hard earned reputation as a tough hard nosed hockey club that fills arenas wherever they play...You would of hated the old Bullies teams i grew up watching back in the 70s...Ain't a damn thing wrong with a few "spirited" players on a club in my opinion, such players give a team a little personality and grit.

the game has changed since the 70s. The Flyers have Rinaldo who Lavy likes despite his stupidity. they have Shelley who plays what 15-20 games a year? then there is Sestito who is barely a NHL player.
This organization has little use for Tootoo.
I started watching hockey and became a Flyer fan in the 70s. the game was different then. Line brawls and bench clearing brawls were a common occurance.
Give me 3 forwards on the 4th line who are good defensively, can bring some energy and can chip in some goals. I dont want another player who will add 150 PIMS to the team and little else.

Tootoo had a decent regular season with 30 points. However, he was a healthy scratch during the playoffs.

His points per game have been increasing each of the past three seasons:

0.31372549
0.333333333
0.38961039

I would bet money he is a player the Flyers like, but I don't think he is worth the money he gets. He would be fun to watch as a fan though.

I agree that Shelley is a waste and not needed in todays game, especially with even his fighting skills severely eroded at this point in his career and the Boogey man no longer on the Rangers rest his soul .But i certainly would not put Tootoo or Rinaldo in his " enforcer" type category, because players like these guys can skate and bring much more to the table than Shelley etc..
A guy like Tootoo is one of them players that i think can play an important role on a club,as can a player like Rinaldo etc.Certainly stupid penalties now and then, and "reputation" calls by refs are something that you have to live with with "spirited" players of these sorts, but you do not want to reel these type players in too much and handcuff the high energy spirited play they can bring to a club....I have been watching the Flyers since 1967 and agree the game has changed in many ways, but i still pay my money to watch a nice mix of highly skilled lines, and high energy balls to the wall lines on a hockey team......especially a Flyers team.

If we're adding a bottom six forward from the ufas, I'd prefer it if we could get a center for the fourth line... there aren't many of those that I really like, however. There's more to Tootoo's game than just being a **** disturber though, if he's signed to a reasonable deal I wouldn't mind too much. Wellwood-Talbot-Tootoo could be a pretty decent line, even if Talbot isn't quite as solid as a center imo.

Actually Tootoo is the best 'stupid player' of those bunch at a country mile. 30 points last year.

Tootoo is underrated. But with Rinaldo on the lineup why would we need him?

My original post was not intended to mean we needed Tootoo or suter etc...Just saying that i have watched him play now and then in Nashville over the years and always liked the idea of him being a Flyer one day.....I personally like the Flyers line up just as it is and have zero problems with no deals at all.Sometimes the best deal is no deal at all.

I would love Tootoo. I live here in Nashville and Tootoo is a great guy community guy. He ran into some demons that plague the natives of today but hes a hard working honest person. Its just not a signing that the flyers really need.

I only hope that Holmgren will upgrade our bottom six with Tootoo and Prust.
