Aulie just got re-resigned, 1 year-2 way deal. @tblightning and @lightningtimes Interesting that he would accept a 2 way deal when he has waiver options. I wonder what that means if anything. Good to have the deal done though as this could be a show me year for him.

Just to know, if he starts season in Syracuse (and its there all year) does he has to go through waivers?

I don't mind this... give him a year in the A to work on his game and come to the big club next year? He also may end up as our Oberg this year.

He's still subject to waivers.

Just housekeeping. If Lightning D Keith Aulie is in the NHL, his salary will be $577,500.

I know it's been reported that he would have to clear waivers if he gets assigned to Syracuse, but I am having a hard time understanding how.

Some info on Aulie:
signed his first contract at 19. (January 2009)
played 2 seasons in the NHL. (He didn't play any NHL games his first season)
played in 76 NHL games.

Based off this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NHL_sal...r_waivers_only

In order for him to have to pass through waivers:
- He needs to play at least 160 NHL games
- Or be sent down after 4 seasons since signing his NHL contract

He's played in less than 160 NHL games.
This is only his 3rd season after signing his NHL contract

Jury's still out. Would like him to show us what Leafs fans saw in him for the past couple years on a consistent basis. He's still a young dman but this is his year to shine. Possibly the reason for a one year contract.

I really like Aulie. I think he has good potential and thought he played well enough while in Tampa/Norfolk all things considered.

He's got all the tools to be a great 2nd pairing dman, but his game is pretty unpolished right now. I think a big factor in this might be that he's played on 5 different teams in the span of ~2 years. That is a terrible environment to try and develop a player in. Hopefully he can spend few seasons focusing on a single system with Tampa.
