Justin Schultz seems like a worthwhile recruit but I don't see Tampa mentioned as a likely destination for him. I wonder how interested SFY is in him>

At this point, I think he is very overrated. The kid hasn't played in a single professional hockey game. What's so appealing about him is that he is a UFA prospect. He projects to be a great Dman, so of course teams would like to get a quality prospect for nothing(besides money).

What Tampa needs is NHL proven top 4 dmen. Schultz really doesn't fit that need.

I could see Yzerman making an offer, but he won't be breaking the bank for him.

Never say never but:

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie

26 NHL teams have expressed interest in UFA dman Justin Schultz, a shortlist of 5, give or take a team or two, likely by this afternoon.

No teams invited yet to meet/present/offer Schultz but EDM for sure and quite likely VAN have management people in TOR waiting for chance.

Everyone is going to offer him a max contract, it's up to him to pick the team he think he'll have the best chance at winning.

Well it's an ELC, no one is going to be breaking the bank.

NYR are in on Justin Schultz. @DarrenDreger confirms TOR is in, @Real_ESPNLeBrun confirms OTT is in. That makes it VAN, EDM, NYR, TOR, OTT.

They are probably dishing crazy money to the kid. Hes proven nothing yet. SY may be smart to stay out of this one. Too much hype I think.

He can't get anything more than a max ELC, if I read right.

SFY and Boucher should go to Toronto like they did to pitch Tampa Bay to Brad Richards.

and have the same presentation: SFY and Boucher showing Shultz their karate skillz.

Why didn't Anaheim ever sign him? Or is he just a huge tool?

If Edmonton is a lottery pick again, can we force them to move or contract? Or is that just reserved for southern teams?

Not that it matters now but Yzerman got a meeting with him according to DC's twitter:

Quote:
Damian Cristodero ‏@LightningTimes

Despite Schultz's decision to sign with the Oilers and his preference to play in Canada, the opportunity was a compliment to GM

The Lightning apparently was the previously unnamed team to make a presentation to free agent defenseman Justin Schultz.
