For some reason I am picturing that part of Return of the Jedi where the Ewoks use two tree trunks to crush an Imperial Walker's cockpit.

Dang... I'm really starting to like this kid. Hard not to like a kid who will sing Marvin Gaye in an interview.

After watching that highlight video Dumba kind of looks like a Dion Phaneuf 2.0 or maybe a mini Dustin Bfyuglien..Hes really fun to watch and I hope he blossoms into a top pair defender. Its almost like him and Brodin were destined for the same D Pairing..their games compliment each other perfectly

I don't know how more people didn't realise this befor the draft, I knew right away him and Brodin should mesh well, he was my horse into the draft all along.

I said it earlier, but he reminds me of a young Dion Phaneuf.

True, but he still plays alot like Phaneuf did at that age. If we get that kind of player from Dumba throughout his career I'd be thrilled.

Your welcome lol.

Seriously though, something happened to Dion, it affected him greatly and he went down hill. I don't think that will happen to Dumba.

Phaneuf has never really been a high hockey sense player. He has skills but that's it. He's no Cam Barker, but his hockey sense has held him back.

@Squidz, I disagree, I think in his rookie year and the 2 years following he was stellar, and a highlight reel. He showed great improvement, up until 08-09, which was the year of sloppy seconds iirc.. I think that got to him, combined with the Calgary coaching merry go round.

I'm guessing you don't understand the statement.

Phaneuf is a very skilled athlete. He just doesn't have the hockey brain to go with. He could be stellar, could have highlight reel play, and could show great improvement year after year, but that doesn't make him "hockey smart."

Yeah, all sloppy second jokes aside.

IHaveNoCreativity, I think you're just looking at a dip in his stats. But like squidz is saying, he's still essentially the same type of player. Somebody who might be a good leader, but lacks hockey sense. One thing Dumba mentioned he has been working on is when to pick his spots for hitting, an area that accurately describes a problem for Dion Phaneuf.

Back to the stats discussion: A dip in production might even be because of him not feeling he can live up to his contract or because he already got the contract, he desired. Going only by stats, isn't that about when his totals went down? After signing the six year deal?

Would Dumba turning into the next Phaneuf really be such a bad thing? Phaneuf consistently puts up solid offensive numbers and we all know he can throw big hits now and again. It seems like any player that plays for Toronto automatically becomes a target for criticism.

Yes and no. I value hockey sense, very highly. If Dumba can turn into a shorter Dion with more hockey sense then I'm sold.

If this part was directed at me, you're wrong. I don't hate the Maple Leafs. I was trying to be fair in my assessment of Dion. But I think any player can be under scrutiny. It just needs to be applicable to their situation. Dion Phaneuf is an established player that hasn't performed as well (statistically) under a large contract. I'd like to believe, my criticism of his current play is applicable to his situation.

Just my take.

Had it been directed at you, I would've quoted you. I just mean in general, it seems like Dion gets a lot more criticism than he deserves.
