Gotta be a reason other than quality of play. Roster spots required?

It's likely the reserve limit.

That, and also I believe they feel that Bartulis deserves a shot somewhere else. Hopefully for him he can stay healthy a bit more than he's been the past couple of years, he could still turn into a decent player I think.

Yeah, I was hoping he would become an orange and black regular.

The buyout at his age range is 1/3rd of his contract (600k), so it should be 200k over 2 years.

100k this year and next counts against, unless I'm missing something.

He's likely to go to the KHL before doing that.

Every team passed on him for waivers. He isn't getting an NHL job.

I wish him the best. I actually liked him and felt he was jerked around a lot. Like say for example when he was let go to join the world championships and then turned around and brought right back.

Its not like he gave him a huge deal, he gave him a cheap contract after he was playing well. It was worth the risk.

Uhh, pretty sure he only got like $600k and he certainly played well enough to get that much.

What a joke. To bad OB had to many imjuries the past few years and others have passed him on the depth chart. Glad for you, you got a chuckle out of it.

Which is why he got that cheap of a contract hit per season. If he was playing that well the whole season he would have made more money. Like I said, it was worth the risk.

He got a cheap cap hit because he was a marginal player. First off, there was no reason to give him a one-way deal. You don't sign those guys and then peddle them up and down from the minors. The dumb thing was waiving him and keeping Walker on the team to start the season.

Who cares if he got a one way deal or not. I still think, looking back at how well he was playing, that the 600k offer was fair. I was excited at the time of possibly having a #6 d man with upside for that little.

Your memory of those 10 games are that vivid? I liked him too, but signing him after 10 games was as dumb. What sane GM is able to come to that conclusion so soon? The bigger problem was when they signed 39-year old Sean O'Donnell and let Bartulis rot in the press box instead of playing games and never gave him a chance to succeed.

I was actually going to a lot of games for the first time in a while at that time (and I haven't been able to make it to that many since unfortunately). So it was more vivid than most two month stretches of any given season. I thought he had a chance to be pretty good.

I have made the exact same comment about the O'Donnell and Lilja signings also. So long as this is how they're going fill out their bottom pairing, they might as well not even draft defensemen. I don't think I'll ever see why they prefer having guys who are marginal NHLers because they're on the way down to guys who are so because they're still on their way up. Makes little sense.

We just drafted a bunch of defensemen. It'll be interesting to see if they ever get a chance, or if they'll be given a glimpse of the NHL before getting benched behind a dinosaur.

I've always wondered if Bart could have developed into something more. I'm not losing sleep over it, but the way he was handled is bizarre/bad.

For the 16 millionth time...a "one-way" deal means NOTHING as far as having or not having to clear waivers to be sent down. The fact that Bartulius was on a one-way deal should mean literally nothing to us as fans. We should not care what his salary is in the AHL.

Yes. It wasn't a bad signing. He got $600k when at the time he was generally considered a prospect that would make it to the NHL.

Correct.

It wasn't a bad signing. A bit weird that it happened so quickly? Yes. But it was just BARELY over the minimum. Homer enticed him with a one-way and tried to lock him up super cheap (for the NHL level). It ultimately probably hurt Bartulis.

I don't really see why it is deemed too quick. He played out his ELC and was up for a new deal wasn't he? He played in the last ten games of the season and by all accounts at that time, he was going to be an NHL player.
