The chances of Suter taking anything less than a $7,000,000 cap hit are probably lower than the already low chances that he actually signs with us in the first place.

With Carle being talking about 5.5-6M, Suter getting 8M seems 100% feasible. Thinking like 7 years, 56M

Yikes. $5.5 for Doan?

Also, rumors are that McClement turned down a 3 x $2.5 offer from Colorado, and wants to be a 3C, so I don't see him taking less for a fourth-line role here.

5.5 is pretty steep, I know, but I could see him getting that. Realistically he'll be closer to 5 million.

Didn't see that about McClement.

I really hope we don't sign Parenteau when we eventually lose out on Parise, Suter and everyone else we want. Ugh.

Trying to build the best 4th line I could using the info I've read - mind you I have a lot of space according to Capgeek to bring in a TRUE sniper.... if they wanted to sign here. So I think our situation is better than most think. As well we don't need to sign a 4th line per se. But I'd like a true shutdown line along with a FO guy.

My perfect bottom-6:

M. Read - S. Couturier - W. Simmonds
E. Wellwood - J. McClement - T. Pyatt

Each line as a speedy guy, defensive specialist and a bruiser/net presence.

apparently McMlement will want 3rd line duties - as well, where would you plug Tal-Bot in?

1 - McClement wants 3rd line duties + money.
2 - Where's Talbot?
3 - Moore might not play again due to his wife's illness[IIRC].

Hartnell (4.2)/Giroux (3.75)/ Voracek (3.5)
Simmonds (1.75)/ Briere (6.5)/ Schenn (3.11)
Read (0.9)/ Couturier (1.375)/ Talbot (1.75)
Wellwood (0.58)/ Burish (1.5)/ Sestito (0.8)
Shelley - hopefully waived
13th - Holmstrom

Coburn (4.5)/ Grossman (3.5)
Kimmo (6.333)/ Schenn (3.6)
Meszaros (4)/ Garrison (3.5)
7th - Lillyboy/Gus/MAB

Bryz (5.667)
Clemmensen (1.5)

Of course Carle could already be locked up at 4.75 or so but at this point I am not sure which would exclude Garrison.
I am trying to be realistic with who they may target and not necessarily who I "want" although this provides flexibility going into the next year.

Salary = 62.315
Cap Space = 7.885

This figure does not include Lilja (0.738)/ MAB (approx 0.9)/ Holmstrom (approx0.75) as our extras

Lilja is on a 35+ contract so can't be demoted without him counting towards the cap and we can't trade him so he's here next year.

Pronger will go on LTIR as soon as the season starts and won't be back until the trade deadline at the earliest, if at all. However, he counts against the summer cap.

Here's my best guess at next year's roster. This group could also fit under a $66 M salary cap so long as the bonus cushion is reinstated and Jody Shelley is waived. But I doubt Shelley is waived unless he has to be waived.

Scott Hartnell ($4.200m) / Claude Giroux ($3.750m) / Jaromir Jagr ($3.300m)
Wayne Simmonds ($1.750m) / Danny Briere ($6.500m) / Jakub Voracek ($3.500m)
Brayden Schenn ($3.110m) / Sean Couturier ($1.375m) / Matt Read ($0.900m)
Maxime Talbot ($1.750m) / Kyle Wellwood ($2.500m) / Eric Wellwood ($0.580m)
Tom Sestito ($0.605m) / Zac Rinaldo ($0.544m)
Jody Shelley ($1.100m)

Luke Schenn ($3.600m) / Jason Garrison ($5.000m)
Nicklas Grossmann ($3.500m) / Braydon Coburn ($4.500m)
Andrej Meszaros ($4.000m) / Kimmo Timonen ($6.333m)
Andreas Lilja ($0.738m)

Ilya Bryzgalov ($5.667m)
Dominik Hasek ($1.000m)
------

(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $70,200,000; CAP PAYROLL: $69,801,944; BONUSES: $2,705,000
CAP SPACE (24-man roster): $398,056

I think you guys have to add about a million or 1.5 million to Suter's potential salary. With Crosby getting 8.7M and other D-men getting more than what they should, Suter's asking price is going up.

Could you imagine if we signed Parise?!

Parise Giroux Voracek --> such a fast line
Hartnell Briere/schenn
Simmonds Couturier Read
Talbot 4th-line-center Wellwood

When you consider our upgraded D, that's a very strong top 12

That would be fine. 6.6 until he retires. It has been a few years since that contract, so say -- 7.2/7.5 until he retires is probably more realistic.
