on the roster, i can see the grit roles being filled, but i dont see skill to flank ribeiro on the 2nd line. and no, just in case anyones drinking early, mojo is NOT that player. he'd just drag ribs down.
imo whitney's the perfect choice. he gets a chance at a cup, can play with a skillful playmaking centerman, a potentially loaded PP - and from the caps end he wont cost 8m or 5+ year term. 2 years until kuz and forsberg are blazing down the verizon wings.

Only problem is Whitney is a very similar player to Ribeiro... Both playmakers... I would definitely not be against it, but I think we need more of a sniper...
I want 2 of Parenteau/Whitney/Jagr/AK/Mueller/Samuelsson...

Many #NHL teams will present Parise including #Sens. Many will disappear quickly when they find out a 12M sign' bonus is needed on the spot
Kiss the Parise pipe dream goodbye. GMGM will never meet his demands from what I just heard he wants on twitter. 12M signing bonus today and 12M next July first too. Good luck!
The only "top" free agent I really hope we go after is Garrison. Once Hamrlik's gone, the Caps will have a serious hole on the left side in their top 4, with no one in the system who looks like a good fit (and a 38 year old Hamrlik is barely a top 4 defenseman at this point anyway). Ideally that would let us dump Schultz too, but that might be a bridge too far with GMGM. As far as forwards go, I don't think there's anyone worth investing heavily in when Kuznetsov, Forsberg, Galiev, and Wilson should all be NHL ready within two to three years. I'd take a flier on Mueller as a low risk, high reward move. As for a bottom 6 winger, I like Taylor Pyatt's size and defensive play, and he'd probably come cheap too. So here's my roster:
Garrison gets 5 years, 23.75M
Mueller gets 2 years, 4M
Pyatt gets 2 years, 3M
Marcus Johansson ($0.900m) / Nicklas Backstrom ($6.700m) / Alex Ovechkin ($9.538m)
Peter Mueller ($2.000m) / Mike Ribeiro ($5.000m) / Troy Brouwer ($2.350m)
Jason Chimera ($1.750m) / Brooks Laich ($4.500m) / Taylor Pyatt ($1.500m)
Matt Hendricks ($0.825m) / Jay Beagle ($0.825m) / Joel Ward ($3.000m)
Mathieu Perreault ($0.825m) /
Karl Alzner ($1.285m) / John Carlson ($2.000m)
Jason Garrison ($4.750m) / Mike Green ($5.000m)
Roman Hamrlik ($3.500m) / Dmitry Orlov ($0.900m)
Jeff Schultz ($2.750m) / John Erskine ($1.500m)
Woo, then Garrison can regress to his career norms and Mueller will struggle with concussion issues, leaving us with Chimera in our top six and another overpaid mediocre LD!
I don't like how we got #2C and are about to let go #2W.
Btw, does Ribs care?
No, better yet, we are letting go a #1W who played in a #2W. I understand both sides of the argument on Semin staying or going, but this is critical we replace the goal scoring.
