I do not see Ryan as a good fit for the damn F'ers.
They score a bunch as it is, scoring is not their problem, defense is.
With Pronger done, Meszaros coming off back surgery, Timonen coming off back surgery and being 37 years old, the F'ers will be looking there before trying to add what they don't need in scoring up front. Also, thy will not part with the players Anaheim really wants from them, B. Schenn or Couturier +.
In a trade package, NYI could have the best offer for Ryan, followed by the Rags (Dubinsky). If we want Ryan we can get him. We need the scoring.

Let's make a move! And I don't mean re-signing Dylan Reese.

So, for everyone clamoring for Garth to do something....assuming

1) There is no chance of getting a premier (Parise/Suter) free agent;
2) There is no way to get an impact player other than overpaying in both years and dollars; and
3) This team will not make the playoffs without adding impact players

Would you be in favor of Garth signing Semin to a 7x$7M and Allen to a 5x$4.5M deals?

Assuming that is what it will take to improve this team.

I don't see the Isles offering those number of yrs or dollars.

If the long shot were to happen would anyone have a problem with the islanders signing semin? To me I would love it just due to the fact that they finally signed a FA with skill.

People talk about how Garrison or Semin aren't worth the money. I would be absolutely shocked if we sign ANYONE of note. I really hope I go to bed tonight with the knowledge that we just shored up our top-6 and our D, but I don't believe it will happen like that. I would be more inclined to believe we don't do anything and watch as others sign the best players out there. It happens every year so why should this year be any different. I hope I am shocked! We (me included) laughed when FLA signed all those guys last year but, you know what, it made them a better team! I WISH teams could laugh at us for at least trying.

Well snow does have some ways to go to get to the floor. Money has to be spent. I really hope we pick up Oli jok for out second line center, and pick up semin. I would be happy with that top 6 with grab and KO flanking Oli.

I would love to sign Semin Or Garrison but not sure if I want to give up more than 3 years for either.... Seems like they both want long term... We have a more realistic chance of Aquiring what we need through trade..

And to the Semin fan club here, trust me, you don't want this guy! Especially, at the money he's seeking. Personally, I think he ends up signing in the KHL.

I've seen him play. Yes he can be lackadaisical at times. But this guy has SO much talent and giving him a one or two year deal could be good for him and us.

Actually, I just thought of something. The Isles should use Nabokov to their advantage if they want to pursue negotiations w/Semin.

i;m surprised nobody has signed ANYBODY yet. there are usually a few deals within hours of the window opening.

btw, how was it that schultz could sign in edmonton yesterday. if he was a UFA why didnt he have to wait until today like everybody else?

He came out of college and didn't have a deal with any NHL team, exploiting the same loophole Gregoire and Kessel used on the Isles last year.

Free agency starts at noon eastern today so no signings for another hour and a half
