I'm kind of psyched on this pick. I have been reading about him since they made the pick (never even saw his name before they picked him) and I think he might be my favorite pick in the draft. I doubt he turns out to be anything more than a MAB/Gus, but I am just digging everything I'm reading about him
He's definitely made a positive impression at the US World Junior camp (so too has Stolarz). He very much could be a steal. Right now he's a little light, but there's no reason to believe that he can't put on 20 to 25 pounds and not have it affect his game - if it's done right. I also managed to watch some video on Gostisbehere and what a smooth player. Incredibly smart, great positioning and more important, always in the right place at the right time. He's got hockey sense that can't be taught. Probably about 2 to 3 years away from challenging for a spot (simply because of his size), but when he arrives, he's going to be awful fun to watch.
Lets not get carried away. He's having a nice camp. Hopefully it carries over.
I do agree, but people also said that going into the camp when others were talking about his dominate Frozen Four play and saying lets just see if he carries it over into the WJC USA camp.
Nice reach by the Flyers with this guy. Kid is pretty good already, who knows if it will transition to pro hockey though. Nice showing today against Sweden.
I guess there aren't any videos of these points he's gotten? Anyone have any game footage of this kid at all? People following the game on Twitter seem to be really impressed and said he has been a top 2 Dman for the US team so far.

Phil Housley is the coach, so if anyone is going to give a small, skinny, fast, skilled dman a chance, it's Phil!

let's hope we keep him away from the team until he is ready to make the jump
Shayne Gostisbehere — It was another terrific day for the soon-to-be Union sophomore. With a pair of goals and an assist, Gostisbehere was the best defenseman in a game that included four first-round picks (two for each team) at the position and one who should be in 2013. He wasn’t just good offensively today, he was dynamic. Both goals were pretty and his secondary assist on Galchenyuk’s goal came after a nice rush up ice. He was a catalyst on the power play, not just in scoring, but in quarterbacking it at times. Gostisbehere is showing high-end puck skills, a good shot and high-end skating. I am still impressed each game by Gostisbehere’s work in the D-zone. He has a really strong defensive stick and is able to quickly react to plays as they develop. He has opened eyes with his performance here.
It's incredible to think that if this performance happened just three months ago, then Gostisbehere probably would have had enough hype to make him a top 40 pick in the draft.
Obviously this is nothing yet, but it's nice to see one of our prospects generate some buzz.
By the time he makes it to the AHL or NHL, how big should he be?
Currently 5'11 160 pounds.. Is 6'0 or 6'1 190-200 out of the question?
6'0 I think our management would be great with. If he gets somewhat bigger and puts on 20-30 pounds, I would hope he develops a physical game too. Kimmo weighs around 195 so playing at 190-195 for a guy his size is probably preferable.
I always remember Homer talking about Sbisa growing into his body. I didn't really think that would happen, but BAM! he grew like 2-3 inches and put some weight on soon after we traded him I believe.
He's 19 already, he was drafted as an overager. I'd be surprised if he grew any more than an inch, if that.
This is true, but the weight is the more significant issue I think. Height would be nice, but it isn't everything especially for a guy who can move the puck well according to scouts. In that regard, I put on some pounds when I went to college, and he has 3 years to go!
