If we came away today with only Tim Thomas, I would be happy. He is probably good for 1-2 more years. By then, Dubby is established, one of Bunz or Roy is the back-up.

He is the best available short term solution.

Tim Thomas is not going to play hockey next year. For anyone.

I'd love to see Doan here. Much better than Smyth. I'd also play him at C and move Horcoff to the wing as early as next year.

Hemsky/Gagner-Doan-Yakupov. Nice second line.

True, but I kind of like the idea for the year after that. If you could get him for not that much, the idea actually has some merit to me.

Thomas is getting old, and taking a year off from the game is not going to do anything for him.

Tambellini saying there are as many options in the trade market as their are on the FA market. Could be a pretty big tell.

On Doan: We know he isn't signing ANYWHERE until the 8th at the earliest. For a fact. So don't expect that to go down today.

Or ever.

I like the dollars, I don't like the term...but not surprised. He will definitely need to be much better in the second half because let's face it, he threw in the towel at the midpoint. Plus, he needs to accept the diminished 3rd line role.

he could be an effective 3rd liner, he steps it up now and again, and i like his bag of tricks.

I don't see a big day for the Oilers today.
I would like to see Prust brought in. What i don't want to see is Tambo overpay for somebody like Carle or Garrison and even Suter as good as he is.
I think that trading for a defensive defenseman like Methot is the smarter way to go and go with a defense by committee and see if one of Schultz or Petry steps up to be a top pairing guy.

He can't he showed that last year where he was useless the majority of the season.

I'm always leery about trades though, and who/what might potentially end up going the other way. If it's an overpay for a guy like Methot, I dunno. I'd much rather see the stopgap acquired through FA. He is a decent option.

Yep, agreed.

Oilers that I think *may* be getting a phone call from Tambellini today:

Gagner
Paajarvi
Peckham
Omark (hey, you never know!)
Eager
Belanger

I also have a gut feeling that if the prize is deemed worth it, I could see Tobias Reider being dangled as well.

hes pretty damn good.
maybe no 12, but his compete level, forecheck, offense, D, etc... is pretttttty top tier for his size/stature.

there's some interesting names on the lists... outside of the goalies.
its too bad Belanger, etc... were picked up in last years junk pile.

That line would seek and destroy.

Of course it depends on who is moved but i don't see Methot being THAT expensive to acquire. It would be great to add a guy like him so that we have a great mix of puckmovers in J. Schultz, Petry and Whitney along with defensive guys like Smid, N. Schultz and Methot. No real elite guys but no weaknesses either.
