I would guess a trade tends to be more in line with Poile's tendencies than trying to throw silly money at a UFA. A veteran guy like Martin, who could eat some minutes, and came out of a system in Jersey not unlike Trotz's wouldn't surprise me as the type of guy Poile would target.

Looks like the Wings are pressing hard for Suter tomorrow.

Oilers will have Messier, Kurri and Anderson calling him tomorrow.

Good luck anyone else.

I'd be VERY surprised if Suter doesn't end up in Detroit. They're rumored to be offering crazy money, and they also give him a chance to win.

as soon as Lidstrom decided to retire, you know Suter and his agent were dancing around the room. Detroit's going all in on him.

hopefully, while they're dealing with him, the Pens can pull off Parise

According to a recent article Illitch and Chelios are going to meet with Suter, and Holland is going to meet with Parise tomorrow.

Agreed. Come October 2013, Detroit is going to have Suter/Weber as the #1 pairing on their blueline.

I don't see how they give him much more of a chance to win than the team that beat them in the playoffs this year That said, I just know it's going to happen.

Looks like both are leaning somewhere else if you need these one on one meetings to convince them otherwise?

Neither the Pens or Wings will get both. Each will get one IMO.

Josh Cooper(Preds beat) said today that Poile's comments to him we're taken as "if Suter doesn't sign with us, it won't be because we were outbid."

Rumor persists that he, like Parise will do for NJD, will at least give the Preds a chance to match any offer.

Mostly because he wants to play in the midwest US. That's not exactly Edmonton.

this is what I'm hoping for. Shero's got the money aside to make a huge bid on one of them. Depends on who you'd rather have. I prefer Parise. And Detroit will likely get the other guy.

of course, you never know what can happen once the bidding starts

I have a feeling Suter will re-sign with the Preds.

the vibe that the Preds and Poile in particular are putting out is that the shoestring budget days are over.

another thing to consider is Poile is probably going to retire in 3 years when his current contract is up... I imagine he's gonna want to leave a legacy for something other than putting together good teams with minimal money... I think the owners have decided to go all in and I expect Poile to at least try to make the boldest moves of his career

I just want to watch all the heads that explode if the Preds re-sign Suter, add another top UFA, and then announce a Weber extension in about 2 weeks...

Either way, I think the Hawks should be in the top five of possible destinations for Suter. He did go on record last year as saying Chicago is his favorite road city because it was close to his hometown of Madison WI (less than a three hour drive).

#Preds using a creative strategy with their best offer yet to Suter. We'll see if it's good enough. Critical couple of hours coming.
