He might well be the carrot on the stick?
Let him develop in the AHL. Personally I think he should be converted into a center. We could have a deadly center depth if Pajaarvi can develop.

Hemsky-Pajaarvi-Yakupov

Happy with the deal. Take Smyth's season as a whole and 2.25 is a very solid deal.

Nope, that would be if Suter was to sign here.

His minutes need to come down to 16-18 though. And probaby no 4 on 4 time.
It drove me crazy to see him playing 4 on 4 last year. Smyth doesn't have the wheels for that.

Who puts carrots on sticks?

Is that even possible?

Is this our depth chart right now?
I think one of Gagner/Paajarvi gets moved for a d-man.

I don't like that it's a two-year deal. Would've much preferred a one-year deal, but I'm OK with this. The cap hit is negligible, so should be fine.

Horcoff-Smyth = SLOW

In no way should Maggie May be underneath Smyth in the lineup. Smyth should be 4th line Pker

great! 3d line money, the term is perfect too. With limited minutes Smyth should still be good for 30-35 points, maybe more if he gets PP time.

also, I think you could easily keep mps/harti in the ahl for a year and have them battle for a contract with jones in 2013. I suspect Eager is replaced with Harti this season if he doesnt play well.

I am liking the cap hit but not the extra year....Would rather pay him 3m 1 year contract instead but whatever we need a few vets of the team.

Can't say I like this signing. But gives them depth. Bye MPS and Hartski enjoy the AHL.

Ryan Dittrick ‏@ryandittrick

Just spoke to #Oilers Ryan Smyth. Says he feels like he can play forever and that he's thrilled to be a part of something special.

Talk about his role next year came up in negotiations. Smyth says he's going to play wherever Krueger puts him and that it's a team effort.

That is good to hear!

Wanted one year with bonuses, but 2 years just over 2 isn't going to hurt.

Great deal for Smyth and the Oilers..Term and dollars are just where they need to be and, as a matter of fact, dollars are a little less than I expected.

3rd line and speciality teams/situations with a vet that bleeds copper and blue..How can anyone not like this?
