Staal signs another 10 year contract...

I really hope the new CBA limits contract length to 5 years or inserts a 35+esque ruling for the final half of a 10+ year contract or any years past the fifth. That will really put an end to nightmare contracts and cap circumvention, thoughts?

There may ot be too many really big names out there this year but there are a number of guys I'd love to see in the orange and black. Suter, parise and so on have all been mentioned but there are plenty of role players who would be a fit. Tanner Glass for example. Watching him live this year was a real treat. He'd be great with Talbot.

I'm also very curious to see what kind of a tender we end up with. Homer is known for being a "July 1 we fill the roster" kind of guy so here we gooooooooooo

Staal will be, what, 35 at the end of that contract? I don't see a problem.

He's prob my favorite of the guys out there. Well Brodeur, but that isn't going to happen.

I honestly have no feel for what the Flyers will do this FA season.

Stall is only 23 though, in his case it's an ok deal, it's not really cap circukmvention. But yeah they need to do something. Maybe say any deal that is longer than 5 years cannot go past a players 35th birthday season (for example)? There's loads of options but something needs to be done.

He turns 24 in September--and the 10 year deal doesn't kick in until next summer. So he wil be 34/35 when it ends.

What is your concern with long-term deals? I get that the 35+ rule needs to be tweaked, perhaps, and cap circumventing deals need to be looked at, but I don't see term itself as a problem.

I feel they put too many teams into a corner, cause a higher than necessary amount of awful contracts and really bring the number of trades down.

Also, I think that if contracts were expiring and being re-signed more and more frequently then the level of quality in the league will be about as optimised as possible.
