Just keep him and exploit his contract ending year. He'll put up big numbers, and we'll all think he's turned the corner. Then when he gets his contract he'll be good but not great again.
He's no cancer as many of the nimrods on this board and around Buffalo in general, would suggest. He's merely the whipping boy. He fills the role that connolly vacated.
Once Roy is gone, the focus will shift to Leino. Sabres fans need a target at all times to loathe. It's unfortunate really.
I agree with most of what you said except for Leino being the next whipping boy. Stafford has sat in the Vice Whipping Boy seat for some time.
Conversation regarding Roy begins at 3:17, exact comment regarding lack of market for Roy at around 8:00
Paul actually states "basically if you wanted him off your roster you'd have to put him in Rochester or buy him out."
Tells you all you need to know about the quality of Hamilton's sources. Does anyone really believe Feaster would turn down a deal around Roy for a pick or prospect? Hamilton's an idiot.
Like what most have said, Roy is not getting the offers Darcy wants. And I guess I agree..... Don't sell him for nothing when he most likely makes us a better hockey team at the moment.
No, just like the season he went out after 35 games and the Sabres went on a tear and made the playoffs, remember?
What about that big tear at the end the Sabres went on this year when they almost made the playoffs? Wasn't something like a 15-5 run, give or take a few? Was Roy on the team then?
I don't think you get an real addition by subtraction. I think the team's success doesn't have much to do with him one way or the other.
correction:
there is a market for roy. however, the market regier expects to sell him in, and the market the buyers are shopping in... are on different sides of town.
No one thought there would be a market for goose at the price of a first round pick, but darcy stuck to his hand, and eventually got what he wanted. I trust Darcy on this. Wait it out. Teams will be more willing to trade once the free agent pool thins. Roy is also on a cap friendly contract. Someone will want him.
Paul Hamilton says that there is no market for Roy, not one taker?
Believe it? Is Darcy overvaluing him or does no one want him?
I find this strange with the shortage of centers in the NHL...
I really find that strange too, that there are no teams that want Derek Roy....honestly I don't know why so many people act like roy is horrible, cause he isn't. He has had a lot of good stretches with buffalo and big goals, there are games where he is the best player on the ice and whole season where he leads the team in scoring, so if we are going to get rid of him (which I wouldn't even want to) I think another team would want him. And honestly, people talk sop highly of Vanek and he was the WORST player on the team in the most import final 2 weeks of the season....he could barely skate. Doesn't matter, as long as we hold on to ennis i'll be fine
"Regier is asking a kings ransom for Derek Roy" - Assumption
"Derek Roy has no trade value" - Assumption
"No one wants Derek Roy" - Assumption
"Regier can't move Derek Roy" - Assumption
"Regier doesn't want to move Derek Roy" - Assumption
How about mixing in a few facts in posts about Derek Roy
Buuuuuuut maybe some posters are GM's or have already asked Regier about Derek Roy in the past FEW HOURS
Also, Darcy is smart to do exactly what we are inferring. See if anyone bites at the high price before lowering it, and let some teams strike out today before doing so.
or wait until the trade deadline and get the high price
There is a difference between.."no market for Roy" and "no market for what Darcy wants for Roy"
I don't think Paul knows the difference
I like Hamilton a lot but I listened to this interview and didn't believe a word. He almost sounds like he has an axe to grind against Roy. The idea that he cannot be traded or would have to be sent to minors is absurd. Yeah, try and pass him through waivers Paul. A $4 million cap hit, expiring contract and limited risk, just about every team would put in a claim.
Paul just sounded silly on this. He doesn't even realize it either

Hamilton sounds like a complete buffoon every time he makes this statement about Roy(and he has made it numerous times since last off-season).
This combined with his statements rather than questions during interviews(in an attempt to make himself look smart) should have got him fired long before now.
