So they sign him to an absurd contract and then shop him? I hope they get shafted on a deal.

Hemsky is playmaker not a goal scorer, so he wouldn't fill that hole.

If he cant survive a hit, he is soft in my book.

I'd take him for free in Ottawa...I guess. Maybe? That contract is absurd though. Why sign him for 2 years at 5m if he's just trade bait? More incompetent Oiler management imo.

How much do we need to add to turn him in to Marleau or Ryan? Obviously Ryan would have a huge price tag, but could Hemsky, Whitney, Omark and a 2nd get us Marleau + Murray?

That's my point. He can and does survive hits regularly. Hard ones by big hitters. He's had injuries, but its not like he breaks as soon as he gets touched.

Omark has no value. I think Hemsky for Murray and a 2nd is possible, but Murray isn't really the kind of player we need, we have enough bottom pairing d-men. I would be shocked if the Oil managed to get a Marleau or even more shocked if we get a Ryan.

Hemsky for Paul Martin?? same cap hit...EDM needs a top 4 dman and pens need a winger...sounds like a match made in heaven...after the pens sign parise the line would look like:

Parise-Sid-Hemsky
Kunitz-Malkin-Neal
Dupuis-Sutter-Cooke
rest dont matter

This is the kind of deal Tambellini is looking for I think. I doubt Washington takes it though.

As of right now, Washington's best RW is an out-of-position Brooks Laich. They desperately need a creative, playmaking-oriented winger that can further bolster the top line.

Green's health is as iffy as Hemsky's, but the upside is much bigger- hence Whitney, a top-four defenceman that has 40-50 point potential when healthy.

Ovechkin-Backstrom-Hemsky
Semin-Ribeiro-Brouwer
Laich-Johansson-Ward

Alzner-Carlson
Whitney-Orlov
Hamrlik-Schultz

That's a pretty disgusting top 9.

I'm not sure if the Prime Minister would waive his NTC for Edmonton

I doubt Martin would waive his NTC for Edmonton. And honestly, I'm not sure if Martin is the type of guy the Oil are after. I'm sure they'd rather have a guy like Depres, and no need to scream about him being not available, I get that.
That's good to hear, I've always liked Hemsky.

I figured as much, Martin, while a veteran, isn't physical enough to be a go-to guy for a team lacking on defense. Perhaps something around Orpik+ for Hemsky+?(I'm just doing this as a trade forum thing to pass the time, obviously no basis in reality)

I'll never yell at someone about Despres, regardless of what people say the only true untouchables are 87/71/18/58(due to contract), any other player is a trade option in my eyes.

Soft? No. Fragile? Yes.

Why do you think his body is so worn down? Because he's not soft and he's been willing to go head to head with guys like Regehr for the last 10 years.

He's a 5 million dollar player. Take last years injury riddled season out of the equation and hes been almost a point a game player for years.
