I've planned on spending a huge part of today following the signings. If the big news is Leighton I'll be inconsolable.

Leighton is perfectly fine as a backup. He'll play about twenty games, probably win about 12-13. Have a save percentage around .900 and a GAA around 3.00, you know, like a backup goalie. Take a step back form the ledge.

Except those are terrible numbers for a back-up goaltender.

LOL.

Holmgren could of signed a rotting corpse to back up Leighton and you would of supported it.

Leighton is not a NHL goalie. that is the problem I have.

A better option?

They could have waited for the market to shake out to see what was available before giving a non-minimum contract to a guy that no other team was going to offer a contract on.

Michael Leighton was going to be available tomorrow. He was going to be available next week. He was going to be available in September. There's no need to do this right now.

I'm not an anti-Holmgren guy, but this isn't a good signing.

Perhaps to save cap to make bigger moves? Mason or Ellis would have likely been much more than 900k. Probably closer to 2mil

Lol. Yeah that's true. The guy everyone wanted was Biron. He played for a team with a lot better defense. And his numbers were...wait for it...12 wins, .904 save percentage, GAA 2.46. WHY WOULD ANYONE WANT HIM THOSE STATS ARE TERRIBLE FOR A BACKUP GOALIE

Newsflash: Leighton has NEVER had those numbers at the NHL level.

Its a good FA year to be an nhl player.

Some of the numbers we see are going to be alarming. Flyers probably priced out of the backup goalie market hence the Leighton signing.

Biron is playing behind the reigning Vezina winner. Leighton a career AHL goalie plays behind Bryzgalov who if it wasnt for his play in March would of been under .900 save percentage and around 3.00.
terrible signing. no way to justify it. I dont care what the **** you say.

Leighton was probably the cheapest option on the market. I am okay with the signing but not ecstatic about it. Chris Mason is likely going to get a decent bit more.

It could be a phantoms signing or he'll compete for the backup job with someone else.

Come on Homer sign someone else for us to ***** about!

Great. Wait it out.

No one, repeat no one was going to swipe Michael Leighton out from under us.

We could have waited to see where the market was going and still had the luxury of paying Michael freaking Leighton 900K to be an painful reminder of the ugliest goal against in franchise history.
