John Mitchell expected to sign 2 year deal with Colorado.

They just confirmed the earlier tweets. No mention on years, yet.

Avalanche Twitter confirms:

Quote:
NEWS: The ‪#Avs‬ have come to terms with UFAs John Mitchell (formerly NYR) and Matt Carkner (formerly OTT). Official announcement to follow.
***

‏@DarrenDreger
John Mitchell gets $1.1 million per year. $2.2 total in Colorado.

***

Carkner listed as a MAYBE as per TSN right now. Avalanche Twitter wrong. Drama!

***

Awaiting for word from Carkner on final decision as per TSN

Is Mitchell gonna be better than Jay McClement for us and help out on the PK?

Verdict's out

You will be missed in Ottawa Carkner. Love this guy's attitude, spirit, ability to play at a decent level.

Unless it's over a million bucks, I think Ottawa made a mistake.

Well, Mitchell will help kill your powerplay and your offense. So if you like having a good PP, keep him off of it.

Best of luck to Carkner. He's a good addition, especially for less than $1.5

You sure about that? We thought that, too. The guy has a way of getting onto the PP. Your coach will fall in love with his practice skills, too, I bet.

Why would Mitchell be used on the PP and as an offensive player?

I'm sad to see Carkner go. When healthy he is the best enforcer at actually playing hockey IMO. Also, I'll never forget him scoring the overtime playoff goal or destroying Boyle last year. A true warrior, fan fav, and great mentor / locker room guy

This year he will have the whole summer to train unlike last year. I really think we regret letting him go. He is good enough to be a #5 or 6 d-man

Mitchell wasn't as bad as most NYR fans would say.

He could be a solid 4th liner on the Avs. Just don't use him on the PP like we did, for whatever reason that was.

Ask Tortorella.

The guy apparently does practice really well and shows a lot of offense there. It just doesn't come out during games.
