I don't understand how Joe & Co. can preach this youth movement, and then sign really old players.

What young players are out there right now? He's getting stopgaps till our prospects are ready. Obviously veterans are going to be the only FAs to take 1-2 year deals.

Whitney would fulfill the fun to watch crater that ribeiro left, for that alone I'm all for it.

I swear Corvo is a ufa every year.

Could see Brodeur working in Chicago for a year or two.

Because if you want a youth movement ... this is the very best way to make it happen. Most of those guys aren't ready for the NHL or at the very least could use a full season in the AHL.

Therefore ... you can sign no one because every 20 something guy with any talent is signing long term (preventing a youth movement) or you can sign the geriatric (35+) who still can play which makes you competitive and they take very short deals (allowing for a youth movement to begin very soon).

Rushing young players isn't a youth movement ... it's a bonehead move.

can anyone tell me what the advantage would be to signing a couple of underachieving veterans for a year? Just seems like next season comes, they score 12 goals and we miss the playoffs again. Seems like a waste to me

So we dont get stuck signing someone to long term deals. Dallas is keeping roster space for our prospects. You can sign vets to one year deals... therefore leaving a spot open next year

Don't have a choice if we are to defeat our eternal nemesis, the cap floor.

Well, we need to fill spots on the team, and we need to be over the salary floor for some trade flexibility. If we want to trade morrow or out for spooner/eller/other cheaper player we might dip below the floor.

This team's drafting isn't good enough to build from within. Probably another decade before we make the playoffs
