Sharks fan here. Its definitely overpayment. He was one of our whipping boys. He's got great speed, but he's not a finisher. He scores 1 highlight reel goal a year pretty much.
But there is in intangible here for you guys. Mitchell and Seto were BFFs in San Jose. I think with them back together, it can really benefit Seto, as I've felt that his heart is still in San Jose and he hasn't felt quite at home/comfortable yet in Minnesota. I think this has some good potential for you guys

I look at former Wild forward Chuck Kobasew last year, who had a better track record(3 20 goal seasons, Mitchell's barely cracked 20 points), speedy depth winger. Kobasew's recent history is not too different from Mitchell(sure Mitchell can play C but I don't see him playing there for us), nicked up and struggling to produce. Kobasew got 1.25M per for 2 years last year, and most people here were happy to see him go.
I think Mitchell, Konapoka signings means more trades coming. I could see Bouchard, Cullen, Clutterbuck, and even Powe on the move. I really don't see why Fletcher would block off prospects like Larsson, Bulmer, Coyle, Zucker, etc.

I sincerely hope signing Torrey Mitchell does not mean Bouchard is on the move.

They technically aren't blocked. They just need to beat out depth forwards Kassian and Veilleux, which isn't too much.
However, because they are young, if they CAN'T beat out 4th line NHL forwards, it would only hurt them if they sat the entire time on the bench.
you can call it the "we dont want to watch guys like Velliuex, Peters, Ortmyer, play for the wild" Bonus.
I think they overpaid, but thats what happens with free agents.

Butch and Cullen can't go anywhere. That's simply not going to happen.
Clutterbuck could be available, but there's no reason to move him.
Powe wouldn't garner anything even close to enough in trade to have it make sense to move him.
You don't clear space for 20 year olds to fit on the roster. There will be injuries, and they will get call ups. Remember, none of those prospects you mentioned have ever played in the AHL, and none of them would be playing on the 4th line in the NHL.
Not a fan of this deal. Mitchell is not an offensive producer, and I don't think he's been the same player after his injuries. The speed and checking isn't there like before, and he's totally redundant on this roster anyway. Expect a lot of money to playing in Houston. If it's not Mitchell, it will be someone else.
Its day 1. Fletcher clearly identified Torrey Mitchell as a guy he wanted, he's got alot of information about the Sharks(Seto/Heatley as players, former coach Todd Richards, former player Brad Staubitz, 3 trades with Doug Wilson last offseason). Sure, there will probably be a guy on a 2-way or under 1-mil contract that signs a month or 2 from now that will be a better player, but Fletcher didn't want to wait around, he doesn't know if that player would have interest in his team, and he wanted to fill this hole now. Torrey Mitchell was obviously his #1 choice for a depth winger, or else he doesn't get this contract today, tomorrow, or next week.
If the Wild strike out with Parise/Suter, I think Clutter is a piece they'd use in addition to a prospect and pick to bring someone in...
Agreed. If we land Suter/Parise, the only way Clutter would be moving is if we were desperate for his (meager) salary space. With Suter rumored to be available for a $7MM cap hit, that seems highly unlikely.
