Thanks for some informed opinions rather than knee-jerk reactions which can be so prevalent on the board.

It is an interesting low risk/high reward type of signing. He has had recent injury issues, but he has shown a lot of promise logging big minutes and having good puck moving skills.

pierre mcguire likes the signing.

Here is a thread on him: http: http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh...php?p=50079661

I like this suggestion.

On TSN Pierre McGuire and Ray Feraro were describing Lundin as a "solid 5th man."

seems like a good signing...a decent mid 20s stop gap for the # 6 #7

Karlsson - Cowen
??? - Gonchar
Phillips - Boro/Gryba/Lundin/Wiercioch
Boro/Gryba/Lundin/Wiercioch

If Murray fills that blank then our D might not look too bad.

Move Karlsson to the right and Cowen beside Gonchar. That is what our D will look like I think, with the ??? playing beside Karlsson.

That makes the signing puzzling for many reasons.
1- No one is yet ready to pick up Kuba's minutes (Cowen eventually) and it doesn't sound like anyone expects this guy to play top minutes with Karsson
2- They could have filled the lower minutes bottom left side with Boro (especially) or Wiercioch (but he probably needs more toi to grow his game) and let them learn on the job
3) They already had a 6th D in Lee and gave him away.
4) This doesn't fill the need for the hard to play against shut down defensive D they talked about getting
5) He doesn't bring offense or toughness so what need does he fill?
6) If as some are suggesting all they wanted was an extra bottom 6-7 body whats wrong with Gryba?

Great start for Murray today. I like Lundin as a depth defenseman signing and the Latendresse signing is a winner, has the potential to turn out really well for us.

I'd like him to sign a tough guy like Prust, but I don't see it happening unless we move a forward or two. Assuming we re-sign O'Brien, Foligno and Alfie comes back, that means we have 13 forwards signed to one-way contracts, and that's not even counting the likes of Silfverberg, Stone, Zibanejad and Hoffman trying to make the team.

Murray needs to add a top 4 defenseman though. Carle would be awsome. Someone who brings enough offense to be a decent option on our second PP would be preferable.

What are we realistically looking at from Lundin?

Lundin could be a decent third pairing d-man but I'm worried that he may be put in our top four teamed with Karlsson. If so our defense will have lost offense in Kuba and toughness in Carkner without adequately replacing either. Please make this post look stupid Mr. Murray.

Exactly what we need. Decent defensive defenceman to eat up some minutes and not get exposed. I expect him to be top 4 on our crappy defence.

my problem with today is that if you are going to hold up spots on the back end from our kids coming (borocop, wiercioch, ceci), then it should be a guy who is CLEARLY better, CLEARLY a difference maker, definitely someone who will make you a much better team. neither of lundin or methot do that, IMO. subtract carks and kubs and add these two, i don't see how we're ahead.

We're ahead because Lundin and Methot can actually play defense which Carkner and Kuba couldn't do well.
