All you guys complaining or worrying about Harti and Paajaarvi: they need to earn it. They can develop in the AHL and in the off-season. They need to prove themselves at camp. It's a competitive environment, and they will have their opportunities. Don't be distressed.

I had convinced myself I didn't want Smyth based on what he'd want for a contract, but this price is really good, and he has accepted his third line role. Gotta love, that, makes the young guys earn their spot.

Ugh with this, such a bad deal.
I totally disagree with you. totally. put in the proper position with the proper amount of minutes, he'll be a great asset for the next two years. he just can't be a second line 20 minute player.
third line, 12-14 minutes per game. I think the Oilers will get full value for this contact, which isn't over priced, either.

great deal for both sides.

By the way people will hate to hear this, but I think there's a slight hint here that Yakupov could be on the trading block next summer.

There's a slight hint because we re-signed our 3LW for two years?

I like the dollar, don't like the term.

Oh well hopefully Krueger uses him properly.

Apparently I'm in the minority, but this is a great deal IMO. Quality vetran who can play on any line and only costs 250K more than Barker.

I agree with you. In a 3LW role he will be a perfect fit, solid vet that kills penalties.

He could have gotten around 3 mill from quite a few other teams, but he took a big cut to stay home.

Kind of expected us to pay more, but glad for the discount!

That's the thing, though. Management preached earning ice-time and all that but Horcoff was given 20+ minutes a game when he was absolutely terrible. These vets are far too respected and if you're not a 1st overall or your name is Eberle, it's difficult to get ice-time over the vets.

I hope that changes with Krueger but I don't really like this deal. Smyth better know his place.

Good deal. Comparable to the ones that Hejduk and Bertuzzi signed.

3rd line RW. He's better on the right side anyways. I'm sure him and Hartikainen will get a look at that spot unless we add another forward.

Good signing. When we make the playoffs this year, he will show our young guys how to be a playoff warrior.

if anything they should trade away belanger and eager

they were utterly horrible last season there the ones taking up pararvi's and hartikiens roster spots.

if i was the oilers gm id unload belanger and eager try bring in jagr or doan for 1 season

Hall - Gagner - Eberle
Paajarvi - RNH - Yakupov
Smyth - Horcoff - Jones
Harktikanen - Belanger - Eager
Lander Petrell

Is this our depth chart right now?
Imagine if we still had Hemsky

No Doubt Jimmi, No Doubt., just when we thought we we're seeing light at the end of the tunnel with the recent developments, we get hit with this
