I don't really know what I think about this deal..
Yeah it's only 1 year, but what if he gets injured? Then he is deemed useless, and we are STILL needing a top6 forward. I know we still have long ways to go, but I don't really know if this is a good signing..

If we get the 25 goals in 55 games Lats, it's the darkhorse UFA signing of the year.

What do we have to lose here though? A healthy Latendresse at that price is basically a huge bargain that no GM could pass on.

Let's say Latendresse gets injured... so? 1.2 M is not a lot for what he could do for us. If he gets injured, we have the depth to support it. Not worried at all.

Potential steal signing.

It's called the trade market. And there's still a lot of time for Murray to sign another forward.

I like the signing but apparently Latendresse isnt big on fitness and shows up to camp overweight

Lats played with Heatley last year.

Public trade demand incoming (e5).

Translates to 36 goals if he stayed healthy and kept that pace that season. That would have been one less than Kessel this year, enough to make him a top 10 goal scorer in the league.

I needs me some of that tenderness.

Ottawa's coaching staff > Minnesota's coaching staff

Paulrus isn't going to take **** and will make sure that he gets into prime hockey shape. Not worried.

I guess that would make him a...heavy hitter?

Sorry, couldn't resist.

The first line LW job could be won by Silfverberg, Greening or Latendresse. I will assume that Murray is going to trade a LWer soon to make room for Latendresse. Greening who is a fitness nut versuses Latendresse who has had weight issues, compete issues & attitude issues should be interesting, my moneys on Greening.

Latendresse's big season in 2009 was mostly spent with Havlat. Spezza will bring his numbers up a lot, and vice-versa. I suspect that playing with Spezza was the main reason he signed with us, and don't be shocked if he has a career year next season.

Love that we've got two snipers to play with Spezz now.

I don't know how anyone can be mad about this signing. Some people on this board wanted to give Matt Carkner as much as $1.5 million per season. And that guy was most likely going to be a healthy scratch. If Latendresse is healthy, he'll almost certainly be playing.

Dunno, I still see him as a second line guy, but he's definitely an upgrade to Greening on Spezza's wing. With 9MM it's not a bad first line I guess.

I don't think there's any debate at all. Latendresse is a clear upgrade from Greening if he's healthy. Silf could surprise, but I would expect that the spot is Guillaume's to lose to start the year.

I hope he works with spezz and doesn't join this long list of misfits and cripples that we toss on his wing to see if they stick.

Meh, I was never a big fan of Guillaume and I don't really see him scoring 20+ goals again. But I can't really complain since it's just 1 year. I'd say it's worth giving him a shot. This makes it ever tougher for Zibby/Stone/...etc to make the team though.

Good deal if he's healthy; increases logjam for skilled forwards. Ramps up training camp expectations for everyone. Nobody save Spezza, Michalek, Turris, Alfie, Neil have guaranteed spots now.

I dont expect much out of GL and I would be surprised if he hits 15 goals but at $1.25M and a one year deal it is hard to call it a bad signing.
