I don't know if Armstrong is the same Armstrong we saw in ATL or PIT, but he's got lots of injuries the past two years. Hopefully he's fully recovered. Therrien knows Armstrong well in Pittsburgh. Army is a gritty player much like Cole. I don't think Army has scoring touch like Cole but he does use his body. Army is an upgrade over Darche, he did score 22 goals a year. But he isn't a top 6. Just one of those guys that's built for the playoffs and to play against Boston Bruins.

there was a defensemen in TO would couldn't stay healthy (http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/teams/players/bio/?id=2466)

Been playin in ST louis for 4 year now.

1 million is low risk for Armstrong, Therrien know's him inside out .

Because Lats is much more usefull? If Armstrong is Injury prone, what is Tender?

Dudley had him at ATL
Therrien at Pitts.
Its not a random signing.

This management with all their experience is showing that you automatically become stupid when you come here. I just don't get any of this at this moment.

Yes, he was. Therrien knows him very well, so hopefully that helps Armstrong feel comfortable in Montreal quickly. Wilson really did a lot of damage to a lot of Leafs players (i.e. Schenn who he pretty much ruined). Hopefully, Armstrong can get his game together again.

Lats would have to a 2nd line player to be effective for us to sign him, i wanted lats...but maybe the habs have a better and healthier option like jagr on their minds.

At least Armstrong uses his size effectively. He grinds for pucks and crashes the net, unlike Gui who tries to dangle everyone.

Lats cap hit goes up to 2 mil if he hits bonuses.

I'm okay with this. People here wanted players that are hard to play against, he is exactly that. I HATED playing the Pens when he was with them a few years ago because he would always be extremely dangerous (in a sometimes good, sometimes bad way) whenever he was on the ice.

Lats is easily a better player, not even close. Ok Bergevin, now go get Christensen in Minny and call it a day.

Tender doesn't fit our group because he cannot skate. Plus Tender had 2 major concussions (likely finished), where as Armstrong had foot injury and broken noise from a fight. Personally I stay away from concussed players.

I think you need to read this link, even a lot of Leafs fans are unhappy he is gone.

Hooooh.... I dont want to have to face him all year long

Good luck Army. You'll be missed!

Absolutely. Great signing by Montreal. They'll love him

He's going to re-find his game, remember he could be one of the best open ice hitters in the league and put Kessel out for the season. Troll job complete.

Ouch... I think Army will haunt us this season, and paying his salary while he's doing it will hurt even more...

Im not denying that. But whats the point of having a good player if he only playes 20 games per years? Last year was the only year Armstrong missed significant time cause of Injury. and its for HALF the Cap hit of Latendresse. Who knows, Maybe Bergevin has something brewing in the upcomming days & hours.

That's how he should be looked at. A 4th line replacement for Darche. Armstrong is an upgrade. Darche has had his moments of effectiveness but he's even older than Armie and has had his own problems with injuries over the last 2 years.

I like it. Low risk. And adds a depth veteran who will be a contributor if we're good and tradeable if not.

Colby Armstrong (RDS Info): "My health is good now, there's no issue. Ankle was tough to get back from, then a concussion. Was hard."

Also, Tender had 2 ? Thought it was groin, then one concussion.

Either way, would have chose Latendresse. I bet he scores 25+ with Ottawa next year.

For only 1 year at that price, it is indeed a very nice gamble ! No downside at all : IF he's healthy and still got game, he'll help a lot and fits a need. If he's done, we can him at x-mas and move on with our lives...

Lats is one hit away from calling it a career. He's had serious concussions issues over the last two years, and I don't expect him to last the season in Ottawa. Lucic or Clarkson or someone will take him out, and he'll be done.

Habs need to stay away from players that have concussion history like that.

Armstrong is a much better gamble, and adds depth and grit to our bottom 6 players.
