Definitely. Also we might be able to get Sugar Ray Emery on the cheap if Chicago makes a move at Bernier. Not sure how I'd feel about that one. I'd prefer to go the UFA route, but if we can get Emery for futures or a conditional pick (IE: Canes make the playoffs, Hawks get a 5th) then I'd be all for it.

Clemmensen
Roloson (Irony, I know)
Mason
Brent Johnson

I would go with Mason as my top pic.

If Luongo goes to South Beach, what about Jose Theodore? He'd prolly be available dirt cheap and his cap hit this year is 1.5m. I assume they're gonna either play Jacob Markström in the backup roll or resign Clemmensen to do it?

Alex Auld or Brent Johnson. Makes too much JR sense not to be one of those 2.

So, add Broduer? Run him and Ward 41 games each, start whomever has better stats in the playoffs?

Thinking Brodeur will sign here is comical.

Biron is now off the table, re-signed by the Rangers for 2 years at $1.3m each.

Didn't expect to get him anyway. The organization's going with Peters.

Honestly, I think he deserves this chance given how loyal he has been to us.

I think one of his main problems is consistency, which unfortunately he probably won't get to work one very much here since he will start 15-20 games max.

However, he did play fairly well in his time here last season (7gp 2.48 GAA .931 SV%) so if he can play close to that he would be doing all we could ask of him.

Plus he should come pretty cheap, which will hopefully force JR to spend more on quality players to reach the cap floor.

I'm not thrilled going into the season with Peters as back up. I just don't think he's ever going to be an NHL goalie. Never been impressed with him and whenever he did get the start my first thought is 'lose'.

Consider that the majority of Peters starts are when Cam needs a break, which usually means the team in front of him isn't all that fresh either. Backups from other teams tend to play against lesser opponents (see Biron's 3-0 record versus the Canes). Being a backup for a mediocre or crap team sucks because you are set up to fail if you are the clear backup.

And it's always a 3rd period meltdown.

But that doesn't change this year...his starts would be entirely more of that exact situation.

My concern with Peters is how often he gets beat low. His first stint back when Cam was out, he seemed to use his size so well. Not much space to shoot at.

The last couple go rounds, just seems like pucks are getting through all over the place.

But he's looked good before. He's looked bad recently (in the nhl). Maybe he'll look good again this year. Certainly not crazy about spending some money that could be used elsewhere to bring in another old goalie that we don't really want.

Theodore has 1 year 1.5m left. That could potentially be a steal and not that hard to aquire depending on what happens with FLA's goalies. Even if they don't get Luongo, ya gotta figure either Jose or Clemmensen are out since Markström is probably gonna be a full time NHLer.

I think I'd be okay with Clemmensen to tbh.

No Peters in Car please. As a third option down in Char? I'm great with that.

You're right, I guess my point is that unless you get someone real good, don't expect different results than what Peters gave. You know, just like Boucher last year.

Can you even count last year with Boucher? He only played in Oct-Mid Dec when the team was absolute ****. Even Cam looked average to down right **** most nights.

Then once the team got their act together, Boucher was injured and didn't even play.

My point is that this is a place backups do not thrive and really aren't set up to going forward.

With Peters signing, I'm just not sure what the plan is for us in goal at this point. Boucher's injury leaves us with a big question mark if Pete is the backup and he isn't more productive than he was last year. Maybe this will be the incentive for him to be that much better. We'd better hope so. And what is the plan in Charlotte?

Maybe I just need to wait and see how the next few days/week shake out.
