Jacket fans really overating Methot in this thread
Tyutin/Nikitan were there best dmen last year
Johnson/Wiz looked good to end year
Methot was nothing special who is up and down in his play
And before that he was looking like a good young defenseman who was improving every year. Methot could still be a very capable top four minute muncher, he was just pushed down the depth chart slowly ever since Nikitin rose up and J.J. came in.
Americanize our team more though wow! We even got the captain on the backend.
If they don't see Foligno as a top 6 guy in the future and he's demanding 5mil/yr + to be on our third line, its not the worst deal.
Methot has some ok numbers for being in Columbus his whole career.
And if he were secretly considering leaving hockey forever to have a sex change operation because he was dying of an incurable disease... the deal might not have been that bad.
Well Nicky really was a 3rd line guy and every year there was gonna be more young players biting at his heels. I liked his physicality on our top 2 lines, but not his numbers. Having said that, we could have gotten a lot more for him than this.
Yes, we're losing a guy who can't crack a weak top 6. The reality is we have younger guys who have better upside coming through. I don't think our team is worse.
guy was dominating at 2nd line center. then they go out and get a guy who NEVER matched his play at that position but kept him there all yr. Nicky gets moved to the 4th ****ing line.
47 pts in the bottom 9 and now traded? for the type we could have got through free agency

That does not mean we should be giving him away.
He is 24 and just had a career 47 point season along with 124PIM
Could we not package him with a pick or prospect and upgrade on him?
This was a terrible trade by Ottawa, no matter how you slice it. I don't care if we get Parise AND Suter for 3million each for the next 10 years. There was no need to make this trade.
Trade Foligno? Maybe, but why now? Why not at the draft? Why not for something that isn't readily available for nothing more than an overpriced contract offer?

This.
While many fans of Nick want to talk about his 47 points, the reality is he just doesn't skate well enough nor think the game well enough to be a top line player.

It's not the trading Nick fact I'm mad at. I'm all for trading him. I'm not for trading him for a #5 dman who can only pay 60 games and is 3 years older.
