Fair enough, not the worst but still lacking IMO.

Also, our D is okayish. Soft as hell. Not to mention, injuries may be a concern. We'll see.

Nice. LOVING THIS DEAL! Hes the guy I wanted the most this free agency. I wonder how much Marie Pier actually influenced Prust in taking this decision.
4 years 10 M... funky math in here today...

You overpay for stars and you fill the other lines with cheap guys, cap management 101.
We have been doing that for the last several years with very little success.

Maybe we will finally be getting back to the strategy that was successful for the Habs when we were winning Cups.

Two scoring lines, One checking line that can score some goals, One tough fourth line for energy and the physical stuff.

Prust's salary is not outrageous.

He IS overpaid a bit but with UFA's that are in demand you're going to pay a premium. Prust gets 2.5 AAV and Gaustad got 3.25 by re-signing in Nashville...I'll take Prust any day of the week.

Overpayment, but again this has been a serious area of weakness of ours for a very very long time. And to those who say that you overpay the Stars and fill the bottom out with cheap guys.. That is the most incorrect opinion I've seen in this thread.

Brandon Prust is a pain in the ass to play against and that makes our skill players better. He can also take on defensive assignments. We are that much tougher with guys like White, Moen, Prust, Armstrong and Bouillon in the lineup.

So excited to see this team finally have a backbone.

We do need one more upgrade to our D. Get rid of Weber and Diaz and replace them with a more physical presence.

Here's hoping we have a pleasant surprise.

Could be a UFA like Jagr or Parenteau or a youngster.
Did you forget how soft our D is? If you're arguing say adding an offensive top 9 forward will help us compete for the playoffs, sure. Just keep in mind, we had AK last year, so we're not building on 2 years ago, we're building on a team that got older and lost some pieces since then. We need a 20+ goal scorer to even think of being in the 6th in conference position(6th being a 'comfortable' position IMO).

Damn, bergevin! You are looking at least 25x better than gauthier right now!

The overpayment is okay to me. No problem at all. Ive wanted him since his calgary days!

At least he kills penalties too. It's not like he's just some scrub grinder.

In fact, he had 13 goals a year ago.

I like Bourque, but I'd rather him be a complimentary piece than a go to guy. As a go to guy I want no part of him.

If Therrien gets RB to play anywhere near his power forward potential, we are in business. Guy is one season removed from nearly 30 goals.

He can be the somewhat skilled guy to play with Eller. Right now, it's pretty much all people whose hands are better for punching than scoring...

this is one of the best signings the habs have made in years. how long has it been since we had a big gritty forward that would drop the gloves with anyone while also be able to hold his own as a player?

Too soon to be wondering?

(Jagr)-Plekanec-Gionta
Pacioretty-DD-Cole
Bourque-Eller-Moen
Armstrong-White-Prust

Or something like that, I dunno.

He is also completely unafraid of fighting someone twice his size.

He loses fights pretty often, but he will fight anyone if he has to.

Which I don't object to, but we'd be missing a top 6 forward in that case.

wow...

very glad to see us add Prust. Great character guy, plays hard every night, sticks up for teammates, doesn't back down from everyone (even if he isn't a full blown "heavyweight"), can be effective playing on the PK, and is always a team first "soldier"...

not crazy about the 4-year term, and the cap hit of 2.5M$ is certainly a UFA premium... but with a 70M$ cap, 2.5M$ isn't quite the same commitment as it would have been with a 63M$ cap.

also, he's a guy who has improved his game steadily over the past few years, which is the sign of an athlete who is both committed and understand what needs to be done to get a bigger role/be more effective.

gotta like that his ice time went up in the playoffs, on a team that played 20 playoff games and with a coach like Tortorella who knows what it takes from the guys on the ice to win.

a risk given the term (more so than the cap hit imo), but I'm cautiously optimistic that by year 3-4 we will still be glad to have him (and the cap hit is small enough that a trade and/or buy-out/bury isn't so onerous should it come to that).

Therrien is getting the type of players he wanted for the bottom 6, now let's see what Bergie can do to address the top-6, or to unload some/all of our 3 dead weights.

Thing I like most about the Prust signing is we only gave up money to get him. Restocking our bottom veteran core without pissing away picks and prospects, for one.

I rather have Prust at 2.5M than both Armstrong and Bouillon at 2.5M. Can we get rid of both and get another Prust?

$2.5m for 4 years isn't going to kill us and he addresses a need in a big way. Like!
