I don't mind this. I like our forward group.

I don't like our defense. EJ, a couple of average middle pairing guys and a lot of third pairing guys. Not going to be good enough.

He is best on the PP playing the left corner, on his off wing. He sets up some really nice one-timers across the crease and back to the points from that spot.

Once we re-sign EJ, O'Ry, Ginner, and Lolver, we'll be over the cap floor, especially since EJ/O'Reilly will likely get long term contracts(5 years or more).

Islander fan here and I will my 2 cents on PAP.
year one with the Isles he turned the puck over way to much trying to create in the offensive zone and he definitely benefited from playing with Tavares. Year two he was much more responsible with the puck and produced even when not playing with Tavares (he is also good in shoot outs). I feel 4 years and 16 mil is a good NHL deal and Colorado did well here. Good luck to PAP because he never got a chance before and proved he could play in the NHL.

We hope for Parise and Suter? We get Zanon and Parenteau. Hope this works out.
Realistically we weren't going to spend what it was going to take to sign either Suter or Parise, some of the reports are out of control on those 2.

Parenteau is a great signing especially at the price we got him for. Zanon is also a solid 3rd pairing guy. And from the sounds of it Mitchell is a solid 4th line center. Not a huge day, but found some pieces without going overboard.

Last year I think we finished 11th in defense and like 25th on offense. Defense wasn't a problem last year, nether was goaltending. Yeah we didn't really upgrade defense but we helped the offense with this signing which was more important. Our defense will be about the same as last year serviceable, nothing amazing.

I like the signing, like the salary, and would have preferred 3 years over 4 but thats minor.

A lot of people think he was one of the best forwards available after Parise and Semin, so this is a very nice pick up. Its an upgrade over Mueller on health issues alone.

I think he's going to be a solid fit on a line with Duchene.

We needed a skill guy. I sure as hell would have preferred Semin because he's a goal scorer, but PAP at that cap hit isn't a bad thing. We've got the two-way players and hard workers up front already.

The defense worries me though.

I didn't want the Avs to get this guy initially, because I had a feeling that he was only a bi-product of Tavares but I took the time to check out his career stats last night and was actually surprised:

2000-01 Moncton Wildcats QMJHL 45 10 19 29 38 -2 -- -- -- -- --
2000-01 Chicoutimi Sagueneens QMJHL 28 10 13 23 14 -7 7 4 7 11 2

2006-07 Portland Pirates AHL 28 15 13 28 35 6 -- -- -- -- --
2006-07 Norfolk Admirals AHL 40 15 36 51 12 13 6 2 1 3 2
2006-07 Chicago Blackhawks NHL 5 0 1 1 2 -1 -- -- -- -- --
2007-08 Hartford Wolf Pack AHL 75 34 47 81 81 15 5 3 2 5 13
2008-09 Hartford Wolf Pack AHL 74 29 49 78 142 -1 -- -- -- -- --
2009-10 Hartford Wolf Pack AHL 35 20 25 45 63 15 -- -- -- -- --

2011-12 New York Islanders NHL 80 18 49 67 89 -8 -- -- -- -- --

At every level he's played, he started out well, only to improve upon his stats every year. That's usually a very good indication that this is a player, who needs a bit of time to figure out what he can and can't do at a new level and then is able to provide solid contributions. When you look at his last year in the AHL, he's clearly above a point per game. This guy is a point producer plain and simple.

After having seen this, I was actually beginning to question if his playing with Tavares wasn't more of a mutually beneficial thing.

After Dallas signed Whitney, this guy became the best available playmaker and this seems to me like a sure sign that they want Duchene to be that 35-40 goal player we know he can be.

All in all, at that price tag for what this guy did last year, I don't hate it and understand the reasoning behind signing this guy.

Somewhere in the top 9.

Stastny
O'Reilly
Duchene
Landeskog
Downie
McGinn
Parenteau
Hejduk
Jones

Mix and match the lines, but those are our top 9 forwards. 4th line will consist of McLeod/Mitchell/Kobasew(Olver sometimes).

We have our 13 forwards, 7 defensemen, and 2 goalies.

People keep saying we need goal scorers but with guys like Landy, Jones, McGinn, Hejduk and Duchene already on the team, and Staz as the only real playmaker, maybe the Avs know what they are doing in acquiring another playmaker. I like the signing.

I thought he wasn't that great his first season but their was a vast improvement in his play in his second season. While playing with Tavares definitely helped he did find ways to create offense of his own at times. If he can build upon last season and weed out a couple more of his flaws(he can improve on certain defensive aspects of his game and also takes stupid penalties at times) he can be a solid addition. I think his point totals will depend alot on his PP time. He is great playing off the left hand boards feeding pucks to left hand shots

Colorado seems like a good match because I think there is 2 centers he might match up good with(Duchene and O'Reilly)

Unless someone like Hishon has an amazing camp and is too good to send down, Hejduk will probably be somewhere in the top 9.

This is where I'm at. Would I have prefered Parise, Semin or even Doan, but PAP will fit well with Dutchy the same way Flash and Mueller did.

Jones and PAP will be ufa's at the same time, I like this should be just in time to cushion in all our young guy contract raises.

Seems like a reasonable deal. He's the kind of playmaking winger that Duchene seems to thrive with.
