Guys the cap hit just moved up a lot. This is a terrific signing.

For years we've been overpaying for guys who suck. Finally we're overpaying for someone who's good.

That's a lot of money for a fourth line player...

Just think of how many role players we can slightly overpay if Gomez is sent to the AHL.

Bruin fans are butt hurt and confused. why? because the intimidation game is over. with three legitimate guys in white, moen and prust who can all handle themselves, thornton. Mcquaid and that rat marchand won't be running roughshod over guys and lucic may be a big quieter

$1M too much but it's put in the right place for this team.

End of the day he's 4th line. Very marginal for helping you win. Overpaying for that isn't good management. Its the same stuff we've been making fun of Brian Burke for here for years. Now a Montreal guy does it and guys love it.

Jesus, so much whining about 2.5 million on a 70 million cap.

Pretty silly to say this since he was a 3rd line player in New York, who actually made the playoffs. I'm sure he can crack the 3rd line in MTL.

You've likely never watched Prust play. Habs players sure are happy about the signing and $2.5m ain't too shabby for a very good 3rd liner who can fight and will drop the gloves with anyone.

Yeah ok he's a character guy with toughness who played on the 3rd line with NY. He'll make the whole team play bigger I'd say that's money well spent. He's only 28 to boot.

Prust was 10th on ES icetime in New York this year. He was 4th line. Year before 11th, before that 12th.

He's a 4th liner. Hasn't been 3rd line for at least 3 years by first glance. To be a very good 3rd liner wouldn't he have to actually play 3rd line minutes at some point?

If they got a very good 3rd liner for 2.5 million I'd be pretty happy. But they didn't. They got a pretty decent 4th liner for 2.5 million. That's entirely different.

I think the Habs will give him a lot of minutes. His most successful season statistically was in 2010/2011 when he played ~12min even strength and ~2min on the PK. Scored 7 short handed goals last 2 seasons. I imagine he'll play on our 3rd line and 1st PK unit.

I'm guessing:

Pacioretty - Desharnais - Cole
Bourque - Plekanec - Gionta
Prust - Eller - Armstrong
Moen - XXXX - White
Nokelainen

Gorges - Subban
Markov - Emelin
Kaberle - Bouillon
Diaz/Weber

Well, can't say we'll be favourites...

We have Diaz (RFA) and Bouillon already made plus we have so much cap space we can afford to go after another FA defenceman such as Allen or Hannan to complete the group.

As long as we are done with the Kaberle and Weber experiments I'll be happy.

I can't wait to see what will happen next time the Bruins and Habs meet when Emelin flattens one of them on open ice in his usual way.

No. Confidence from your top forwards knowing that there are now at least 3 very tough guys who will have your back is an essential cog during the regular season.

And its already been shown that Prust is a valuable contributor during the playoffs.

What Bergevin did today is excellent management.

I can bet you that he'll get 3rd line minutes with the Habs. How can you possibly ***** and moan about this signing..seriously? When he takes on Lucy or that rat Marchand this season I'm sure you'll change your tune.

Even Rangers fans consider him a 4th liner and he was a fan favourite.

He's everything you want from a 4th liner IMO, but as a 3rd liner he's limited.

I like what we got today. Prust and Armstrong bring size and grit. I'm wondering what's the deal with Boullion. He's been here and left and back and left and back again. Bou is 36, not getting any younger.

Our 3rd-4th lines

Moen - Eller - Bourque
Prust - White - Armstrong
