Hope it works. You could tell the guy was just down last year. Felt bad for The Gooch.

Powe can play C well enough for 4th line duties. I don't think we're bad off as the lightning were or the Isles were (where Konopka played most of the season). I don't know if there is a single matchup where we'd benefit from having both Kassian and Konopka in the lineup.

Granlund - Koivu - Heatley
PMB - Cullen - Seto
Clutter - Brodziak - Mitchell
Powe - Kenopka - Kassian
Veilleux

Sign Parise? Granlund centers line #2, Cullen slides down to third line wing, Mitchell to fourth line wing, Kassian scratch, Veilleux Houston.

could have had something to do with not being fully recuperated from getting hit by a car, too. just couldn't get on track for whatever reason. this certainly isn't going to hurt! collecting sharks. anyone you guys are trying to get rid of? LOL

I'd personally like it better if Brodziak and Cullen were switched.

If we're relying on Powe at C, we have some issues. He can play C, but we'd much rather he didn't.

hmm..i've never really looked at how many faceoffs our fourth line has to take a night, but I can't imagine it would kill us. and if they're D zone faceoffs don't we sometimes throw another C out there anyway? or is that just with Koivu on the ice

other C duties aren't very complicated on the fourth line. skate in and disrupt people.

Thinking about it more Mitchell essentially replaces Nick Johnson's offensive production and brings a more well rounded bottom 6 game. More physicality and defensive responsibility, grit.

I think the plan is for a Powe-Konopka-Kassian/Veilleux line, but the hope is that Bulmer/Larsson/Palmieri wins a spot and forces Mitchell or Clutterbuck down to the 4th and Kassian/Veilleux out of the lineup.

Thats how I see it. Sure would be nice to have the problem of having to play 3rd liners on the 4th line.

Can't score to save their lives, but, yeah, otherwise solid.

You guys can expect this from Torrey...

...once per year. Every year, he will score one unbelievable, highlight reel goal that would make Mario Lemieux's jaw drop. He won't do much else the rest of the season.

4th line might not. 3rd line has 30-40 potential goals in it, as it stands now.

yeah, unlike most others here I've never considered scoring the third line's priority. usually the way yeo talks about the structure of the team the bottom six are supposed to be primarily mucking up the other team. It really shouldn't shock you when we assemble a bunch of players who's skillsets are primarily geared toward that end. if some of the camp guys impress you may get your wish, though, as Palmieri, Larsson, and Bulmer should be able to add a little offense.

Mitchell's new contract still puzzles me some though. Too much money for what he brings to the table in my opinion.

Quality signings for depth, but so far not too impressed on our first day into free agency. We need top 6 forwards and defense, not depth character guys.

I watched Konopka for Ottawa he'll be good for us. Quality signing though.

Know nothing about Mitchell though, hopefully Brodz's offensive ability rubs off on him and he buries a few more.

he's cheaper than cullen, but sort of the same thing...got speed and is decent defensively, can slot up if needed but isn't really a second line player. versatility, i guess. dunno. It's not bad.

After seeing what happens when you perennially don't have a 3rd-line that can score (San Jose), I think it's a big deal, even if your top-2 lines are excellent (which ours aren't). It was painful watching San Jose try to win games with only two lines that have a prayer at scoring. Ironically Mitchell was part of the problem.

Honestly we need both.

The Wild also made pushes at a top 6 winger and a top 2 defenseman.

There aren't any worthwhile top 6 forwards out there after Parise... The same is fairly true for Suter... not much worthwhile after the best of the 2.

We should see what Brodziak and Clutterbuck do again this year before we completely write off their goal scoring ability. Both guys have shown the ability to put up ~ 20+
