why do the flyers need parise? i don't understand this. sure they will have a better defensive forward, but is pronger going to suddenly rise from whatever the hell is going on with him and fix the defense?

they need to teach guys like giroux, simmonds, schenn to play both ends of the ice.

Major pass. Brodeur is a safer bet a 2 yrs and 5 million per and I think that's lunacy.

Hemsky has been a major disappointment to date in his career. Constantly injured and his scoring touch goes away for long stretches.

Giving up assets for him makes no sense. I'd rather go extreme and think of acquiring a bigger scoring threat, even if it means considering dealing away a couple of our defensive prospects.

I sort of interpreted it as him wanting 6.5M and Vancouver being priced out in terms of not wanting to give him that. I'd be SHOCKED if he got 6.5/per.

I think Zach realizes that the flyers goaltending and defense is trash. They go nowhere until both are fixed.

More TG on Zach:

Tom Gulitti ‏@TGfireandice
Don't know what Parise's 2012-13 salary would be if he stayed, but I'm guessing they'd have a lot tied up in two players.

Tom Gulitti ‏@TGfireandice
People keep asking about cap room. It's not that. They have a budget in real dollars for 2012-13. $11 mil will go to Kovalchuk.

That's really not bad. Garrison is better than Wideman, especially in his own zone. I think career wise he's got a decent career +/- for being on a bad to mediocre panther team.

Wouldn't put it past Holmgren to trade one of his forwards for a defenseman, he can't resist playing with new toys. Of course, he's supposedly in on Suter too so he's probably trying to get them as a package deal.

Term's really the only risky thing about that deal, but someone was going to overpay in terms of years or dollars if not both.

It would take him to 33. Not a big deal unless he falls apart physically.
