Is Garrison physical? If he is more physical than Schultz, then I like this signing. If he's just a defensive-defenceman, then I don't know about this.
If this is our only defenceman, then I think Ballard will stay as our 3rd pairing.
127 hits this year, 136 the year before. He's definitely willing to lay on the body.
Love the signing. He honestly reminds me a little bit of Sami Salo - a rock defensively who may not put up a ton of points but has an absolute bomb from the point. He may have only had 1 great offensive year, but he's played great defensively now for two years running. His track record is small only because he's only played in the league full-time for two seasons. I highly doubt he puts 16 goals again, but I would be pretty happy with 8-10 goals and 25-30 points. His ability to play both sides is huge, as it gives us a lot more flexibility in who to put in the lineup when it comes to the inevitable injuries. Love the fact that his contract is for less than Hamhuis and Bieksa as well, as it keeps the teams salary structure in place.
Overall - great signing. Now to move on and get a top 6 forward.

This exactly. Having
Hamhuis-Bieksa
Edler-Garrison
Ballard-Tanev
is just a solid 3 pairs of D, and we get younger too (will miss you Salo!). Good to see us keep going with the D by committee routine.
Also now every offensive D-man has a steady partner to watch his back.
