I have a feeling that'll be after the Luongo deal (or the players will be those we get in the Luongo deal).

In other words, I'm not expecting any signings of note other than fringe/depth/AHL type signings.

That said, Shane Doan is still out there, and could make this offseason pretty epic for us.

If Petrovic or Howden isn't on the table, then what exactly would FLA be offering for Luongo? ...that would also interest the Canucks?

Man, these contracts are just ridiculous. If you're going to throw a lot of money around on july 1 you better do it smartly.

Garrison's advanced stats are solid. I love the way he shoots the puck (head up, all the way.) We NEED him to be a big piece of the PP, which isn't the same without Erhoff's shot from the point. Hopefully he can pass the puck well enough to play on the first unit. This signing gets a provisional thumbs up from me.

This is even better, though. This list was compiled before his "one-hit wonder" season.

Nice, I come back from dinner and get this surprise. This should be really good for Edler, a good reliable partner to play with all season. If they work well together, we're in great shape on D.

Most likely, although I wouldn't be surprised if he played with Hamhuis on the PK or when protecting a lead.

Garrison left $ on table - was offered "Wideman money" elsewhere - but wanted to play for hometown VAN, which held firm on internal $ scale.

Honestly, and I'm one of only a couple Cats fans who have this sentiment, I wouldn't be opposed to putting Howden in a Lou deal, but if that level prospect doesn't happen, I would expect our second tier prospects to be included, and our second tier guys are better than plenty of other team's first tier guys.
Someone like John McFarland comes to mind, him and someone like Corban Knight might be 2 second tier guys that would be there instead of a top end guy on our end. Them along with (I would expect) Theo (who has to wave a NTC of his own) and Scottie Upshall for Lou and a mid level pick.

I'm cautiously excited about this signing. It really does look to plug a big hole we had in our top-4 on the blueline. The cap hit is decent as long as he brings solid defensive play and chips in a few points with his bomb on the PP. I'm not expecting him to necessarily repeat his goal scoring from this past season, but at $4.6M he doesn't necessarily need to do that.

Given what some guys have been getting on the market lately, it's hard not to like this signing, despite the risk attached to 6 years of term on a guy with only 1 or 2 really good seasons under his belt. But i'm comfortable with that risk, and obviously Gillis is as well.

The biggest thing, is that this makes it a lot easier to focus in on upgrading our forward corps, and gives more flexibility in a potential Luongo trade, no longer having that glaring hole on the blueline to patch.

He must really believe in his ability to negotiate.

Then again, there's only so much you can do when negotiating with a guy who's already made up his mind (i.e. Schultz).

Here's one more article on Garrison.
I think his defense is good, if he can turn Weaver into one of the better defensive defenseman in the league a year ago, and gave Campbell a resurgence last year.
