Dennis Wideman still has the highest AAV so far with his new contract.
That's a big commitment to Garrison, but he's going to a better team. He could be paired with Edler. And he'll get playing time on a power play that features the Sedins and Kesler so there's serious potential for him to match or exceed his Florida numbers.
Wouldn't be shocked if he potted 20 goals on that PP.
Martin is a salary dump at this stage. He could have a career revival but... he may just be one of those Devils free agents who bombs elsewhere.
That's goign to be a pretty significant dump. Michalek was easy to move because Phoenix wanted him back and he played pretty well last year. Martin was awful and he has a bigger ticket. As Marc Crawford might say, "he's headed to the island of misfit toys" (line of the day)
Yes but I see that change as canceling out, not necessarily an increase.
Well, imo, Henrik Sedin is a greater PPQB than Brian Campbell. Plus their PP is set up along the half wall, which creates space at the point. Garrison plays the right side on the PP. Your going to see a ton of passes from right corner to Garrison's point next year.
Defenders are going to be sucked more to cover the corner. Even if they do not(leaving one man high), that is going to give more space to Henrik. Works out either way.
If Vancouver ran a shooting/box PP, then you would have a point. Those PP's rely more on point mobility/shifting from the Dmen. It requires your PPQB, usually, to be a D man on one of your points.

Please get Taylor Pyatt so we can inject speed into the fourth line. So we don't have a bunch of useless ****ing traffic cones lumbering around.
I was hoping our 4th line was going to be something like Pyatt-Boyle-Tootoo rather than Asham. I would think with the prices today that Pyatt and Tootoo would be wanting more than we are willing to pay.
Patience. This team needs a D or two and one more winger. Of the wingers who fit what we need, only one was taken off the grid today, and he wasn't even my top choice.
I don't see any Dman who is left in FA that addresses our needs in our D core. At least not any who can act as a legit triggerman on our PP. Couple guys can play RD in the FA market, but they may as well keep Strahlman and hope for Sauer to get back in the lineup. I really don't see a trade for one.
I honestly think the Dman situation will be handled internally this season. But they absolutely have to address a top 6 winger. They can't twittle their thumbs about that.
