Gio will give 110% like he always does. Don't expect a 100 pt season out him. Be happy with 60 pts and the fact that he might be the smallest guy on the ice but plays like he's 6'9. Energizer Bunny ftw.
I feel great about it: he is a good captain and a relentless player. On a side note, Gionta has become (after Gorges and Hamrlik) our most underrated player.
Not to confident with him as Captain. His abilities are fading, but heart will always remain. As a player, hes gone down to a third liner. I think their are other people such as Josh Georges who are more capable leaders.
tbh i found it a bit ****ing weird the huge amount of cheer-leading he did for NJ during playoffs but his bro's there...nonetheless for a captain i found it over the top. still a useful player. we need his 2nd line contribution until Gallagher is ready to take his job
Exactly. Gorges is the one who will most likely be captain when Gio will be gone, but I wonder if galchenyuk could be it..
Its really doubtful that he gets it before Gorges. They wouldn't give it to Galchenyuk before he's established in the NHL and Gionta will be long gone by then most likely.
Unless of course Galchenyuk makes the NHL this season, wins the Calder then gets like 100 pts the year after but thats extremely unlikely to say the least.

Why Gorges? Its not as if he already has some captaincy experience behind his belt..
Gio is a great Captain. He represents what most (I suppose) fans seek. A hard working hart & soul player.
Great Leader. If the captaincy was ever to be changed if Gio got traded or MT doesn't like his ladership, then I,d put my money either on Gorges as captain, Pleks, Cole, Markov/Moen as alternates.
It comes down to him being healthy and evaluating if that will be the case in the future if he is not than he will hold no value in a trade, so if I was MB I'd try to find out what are exactly the odds of him being an healthy scratch or not before seeing him retire or traded for nothing.
If Brian is in good shape than it's a no brainer that he should stay
