Yeah, he's so much better than Prust, must have taken a discount to sign in NY, otherwise he could have went to the Habs and made 2.5-3 mil per.

I get that. I think most of us do. Just was not going to happen.

The Rangers need toughness on that 4th line and they have it now. Asham's the guy you hate to play against....which means we will be tougher to play against.

You can't spend $2.5 million on Brandon Prust, but good luck to him . He was a very good Ranger.

Prust is no longer a Ranger by his own doing.

I don't blame him one iota, but the fact is he is NO LONGER A NYR player and therefore, he is road kill.
Couldn't have said it better myself. He means nothing to us now.

And welcome aboard, Arron. You want to win a cup? Hopefully this is the right place.

every time a team signs Asham, they hate his guts and you wonder if the fans will ever accept him as a player on your team....

but by the time his stint ends with your team, he's a fan favorite that all the fans want to bring back

he's definitely lost a step in his game and isnt as effective as he was a few years ago, but he is a capable 4th line guy who is great in the locker room and will stick up for his teammates

I'll miss Asham in Pittsburgh.... I hate the Rangers, but I hope Asham has success there and you guys love him like so many fans from his previous teams have

You should be ashamed.

(Unless the post was sarcastic, hard to tell).

Pun intended? And yes, I'm being serious. I hate Asham, no matter what jersey he's wearing. Maybe over the course of the year I would grow on to him and eventually like him, but as of right now, I hate his guts. Luckily for Asham, we don't face Montreal for about a month into the season, so maybe by then I will change my mind.

When Giacomin was traded to the Wings, the fans in the Garden were rooting for Detroit to win. Obviously their skill levels are complete opposite and Giacomin was beloved 1000000000x more, who's the judge to decide when I'm allowed to root for another player?

Cheering for Prust (or any of our former players) to do well is 1 thing. Asham, love or hate him is now 1 of our own. Cheering for him to get beaten up is just wrong.

The only person I would root for to beat up Asham is Prust. If he fought anyone else, I would root for Asham.

sillies... he's not going to actually play. we just got him so he doesn't cross check any of our players in the throat.

(well... chest riding up to throat)

I hardly know anything about this guy. I've heard about Hanley via my Islander friends who were gushing about him so I'm guessing these two replace Prust / Scott ? Meaning one won't play and the other hopefully lives up to what Prust has been doing for 2 1/2 seasons?

I really like this signing. Prust for 2.5 million is a TERRIBLE contract, especially for 4 years. I loved him while he was here and will admire him as a Hab but I DO NOT WANT him on the Rangers with hat contract.

Asham is difficult to play against and can actually make some plays. He is solid defensively and will drop the gloves with any middle-weight in the league. for 1 million/season this is the type of a deal a 4th liner should get. Underrated signing.

This Asham signing reminds me of Donald Brashear (sp?) one a few years ago. I just can't imagine Asham in Rangers jersey. Hopefuly this turns out better and Asham will be able to replace Prust, his starting position is very good since he is making 1.5 times less than Prust. Should Prust signed here for that kind of money he got in Montreal, he would have been a scapegoat come Christmas (assuming there is no lockout of course).

Hated seeing the Rangers play against Asham, that's for sure. Smart signing at the right price for the role.

the brashear one was much worse though. brashear got signed to the rangers after a dirty hit left one of our own in the hospital with a BROKEN FACE. i hated that signing from day 1, no matter what he did for the team he would not have changed my opinion.

i don't like asham as a player. i don't want a guy who loses his cool in the playoffs (which he did) and gets himself suspended. this team doesn't need toughness. i'm hoping sather knows what he's doing here but haley and asham is not cutting it for me

Hate the guy. Real POS player. Could be just what we need

Better to have him inside the tent pissing out than outside the tent pissing in.

I hated Asham on the other teams, but now I like him...he's got a nasty streak and I hope he uses it (just not more suspensions or too many dumb penalties obviously).

Same here. I don't like the guy, I think he is a POS. I just hope he doesn't lose his cool again. The last thing we need is him pulling that **** in the playoffs again and getting suspended.

Great signing ($ wise), but leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

This signing doesn't come anywhere close to the wretched feeling I got when we signed Brashear. As others have said, the guys you hate to play against are the ones you want playing for you.

This isn't as bad as everyone is making it out to be. Asham is serviceable and is on a fair contract. Would I have liked Glass for only .1M more? Yes, but we know Torts values his fighters and Glass isn't one of them.

The only other 4th liner I would've liked (that was signed yesterday) was Konopoka. He got a fair deal at 975k, he's good at faceoffs and can hold his own when it comes to fighting.

I would say overall, this was a decent signing considering what others were going for and how Torts structures his rosters.

I think that the team ws missing a mean streak. Not that they back down to anyone, but still missing the mean streak. Asham can get there. Reasonable contract for what he is. I like the signing.
