Latendresse definately needs to be top 6. Mtl wanted him to be a 3rd line grinder with above average scoring ability but he's not an energy guy, he's a goal scorer. Him and Dereck Brassard were money in Junior and he can probably score 30 if he plays with a good playmaker. He can use his size and give tunderous hits but we can't expect him to be Dustin Brown.

I think he's either going to be a good player for us or a frustrating one. Just watching vids of him and I'm already cringing seeing him skate.

I do like the contract tho. One year at 1.2 is great.

Will he wear le numéro 84?

Hopefully. That's badass. I like badass numbers.

Love this signing. Was a Latendresse fan when he was in Montreal.

Expecting a good year out of him.

Just to be clear, because of the bonuses present in his deal, despite the fact that his salary is $1.2 million, his cap hit is actually $2 million. I suppose this is less of an issue now since we appear to be a cap floor team for the foreseeable future. Looks like we might be more inclined to sign these types of deals (higher cap hit, lower salary) as we go forward.

Stone has better hands around the net, play-making and IQ. Latendresse is more physically developed and bulkier at the moment however

I'm very happy with this deal. Latendresse essentially replaces Foligno.

Latendresse-Spezza-Michalek
Silfverberg-Turris-Alfredsson
Greening-Regin-Zibanejad
Smith-O'Brien-Neil

Like that forward group. Love the combination of size/speed/skill/grit

Injuries are ok to take a chance on in the draft don't like it at this level. Hopefully better than glasscal.
We can afford to have injured players in the press box

The cap is now 70.2 and we haven't even reached the CAP FLOOR yet...

We don't realy on Latendresse to be our savior. If he gets injured, he's gone next year and it gives an opportunity to someone else THIS year.

Yeah it's only 1 year, but what if he gets injured? Then he is deemed useless, and we are STILL needing a top6 forward. I know we still have long ways to go, but I don't really know if this is a good signing..
Nothing. Someone else plays. Many guys will be eager to show they can contribute. Silfverberg, Regin, Zibanejad, Da Costa, Hoffman, Petersson... all those guys want a spot on that team and all have skill to boot.

I can't reapeat this enough. We are UNDER the CAP FLOOR right now with 20 M$ of cap space and 19 players signed. We can afford to take risks on players who had injuries

It's clear that Silfverberg is making the jump to NA to play in the NHL. If we send him to Bingo more than a few games (if needed), we might lose him. I really don't think he'll need AHL time though so no worries

That's what I liked about Foligno, you could plug him in down there and it made the line much better.
You never saw Latendresse play or what?... Latendresse is a big body who use it all over the ice. He's also an offensive player, creates a lot of things. The only reason why he was available for us is because of his last 2 injury-plagued seasons.

I was under the impression bonuses don't count against the cap since it's not guaranteed money. Even though, it's still a good risk in my book.

couple seasons ago this was the case. There was a penalty if your bonus' did get paid out and you went over. Cant remember what. But it happened to Chicago after they won the cup.

Now the bonus counts towards the cap hit. I believe it is an ongoing adjustment too. B Schenn had a bonus if he played all 82 games. Since he had to sit out a couple games, he didnt qualify for the bonus and his cap hit was adjusted.

As a pensioned player (400 nhl games) who missed 100 days because of injury in the last year of his last contract, and who is now signed to a 1 year contract, makes him eligible to receive performance bonuses. I believe they count against the cap until such a time as they are no longer achievable.

Foligno would likely have to have been given an rfa contract of a few years at a few million. And we pretty much know his limited upside.

Guy is 1 yr at $2 mil. Seems not that long ago when good cap deals were the deciding factor for Murray. Now the problem is that he has underpaid too many players and is danger of not meeting the cap floor.

Guy will mix in well with a lot of our other prospects all battling to be top 6 forwards. Our bottom 6 has plenty of character.

Yeah the cap floor thing is very curious. In Las Vegas Melnyk preached "fiscal responsibility" so according to that we'd be close to done.

Meanwhile ticket sales were healthy last year and that looks to continue into next year so the cap floor probably means healthy profit for Melnyk.

Murray also talked about being willing to add a big contract so he might yet make a big splash.

I can't get a read on the plan lol.

Yeah. This feels more like a rebuild than last year's 8th place finish did. I think they have certain free agents in mind, and they just don't want to come here. So don't mess up the rebuild by signing middle-tier players to big, long contracts.

Its not a matter of them not wanting to come here its who has the best offers don't forget there was tons of buzz around Toronto they were going to be very busy july 1st yet they were not so in many cases it comes down to the best offers.

Why do people think that Latendress can be an offensive player? He has yet to show it, so why do people expect him to score here?

I think he broke 30 points one year, and his numbers indicate he is a plugger, not a top 6 sccorer. Neil scores more, is he a top 6 winger?
