How can you not understand this move? Prust wants a payday, he puts the squeeze on Slats and goes to Twitter and complains. He effectively signed his walking papers.

We get Asham for less than half of what Pust was asking, and Asham is no slouch. He plays with an edge, fights, and chips in points. Just like Prust.

This move makes perfect sense.

He's a good 4th liner. Good signing for the Rangers.

Injury prone and slow but great fighter for his size and has above average offensive skills and instincts for a guy in his role.

no, it makes a ton of sense.
prust wanted a couple mil per and they got asham for two years for what prust will get for one year in mtl.

i was not about not wanting him it was about money and what they felt he was worth.

Waste. Should have gotten Konopka, at least he has some use (face off circle). Asham is a dirty hockey player. Disgusted to have him part of the Rangers organization. Hope he is 4th line or buys most of his time with the Whale.

Found a replacement for Prust for about half of the supposed asking price.

Asham is old but he is a good signing. Good offensive IQ and tough to play against. last playoff series made him look dirtier than he is. Solid

Apart from the fighting I think they're quite different. Prust is quicker, more physical, much better defensively and generates his offence mainly from effort and driving the net. Asham's slow, not great defensively, hits but somewhat held back by his skating compared to Prust but has solid offensive instincts, good hands for a 4th liner and a very heavy slapshot.

Asham is a great team guy. Tough as nails. He can still play a little bit. He and Rupp were great in the playoffs a couple years ago against Tampa.

How is it a waste? Tons of Ranger fans have been clamoring for Konopka (myself included) but Asham is a very solid addition since we couldn't get him. Asham brings much more offensively than Konopka does. Konopka's career high for points in a season is 9. Asham had 16 in 64 games last year.

Konopka's a black hole offensively, good face-off guy but that's about it apart from the scrapping.

He won't. It's not his game. He's only been suspended once in his career and that was this past playoffs against Philly after Schenn ran Martin. He stands up for his teammates in those scenarios. He's an excellent middle weight fighter. He's got good hands and a big shot but his lack of speed keeps him from getting in positions to use those attributes that much. He tries to throw hits but doesn't really have the speed and/or size to generate big hits/collisions.

He's too slow to hit Crosby. He's lost a LOT of foot speed. Don't get your hopes up here

I know it's nit-picky, but I'm OCD like that. Asham's name is spelled Arron instead of Aaron like in the thread title. Just realized.

Guys, move on from Prust. He wasn't a good skater himself; I don't know whose scouting reports they are from. He also was a 'very' weak hitter. I see this as a heck of a swap for NYR.

I can see Prust slowing down now that he got paid.
