I do love the Boyes signing though. They need to get another veteran forward and a couple on the point, but overall I like what the Isles have done in the past couple years. They do need to get over the hump though.
Actually if you look at his moves he has made, Snow has not done that bad.
Wang - the owner is the problem. What is Burke's excuse?

If Burkes going to do a full rebuild then he should leave a few spots open for prospects like Kadri or potential depth players like D'Amigo . Enough of this half assed crap of signing stop gaps .
How about those players just earn there spots at the NHL level like Gardiner and Frattin did.

Nobody is holding them back from getting to the NHL level except themselves. Rushing our prospects will just make us worse in the long run.

Earn thier spots ? When the **** did LCK earn the right to keep there spots .

Also , who said anything about rushing prospects ? I said we should keep some roster spots open going into camp so we can break camp with any of the prospects that deserve to make the team . If none of them show well then we can go with the Brent/Crabb types that we always seem to have kicking around .

There's no need to keep signing stopgaps when all they do is chew up cap space and the end result is a lottery pick anyways .

It's up to the "young kids" to beat out the "stop gaps" for jobs in camp. Gardiner did it last year.

Honestly, there are very few names that are interesting in this FA draft. I'd rather give the kids the playing time, even if it means we miss playoffs again. For all the reasons an FA may pass on coming to Toronto, I'd hope that the reason is never because Toronto is handcuffed by too many bad contracts which prevent them from making a competitive offer for a quality player. This FA crop is 3rd/4th liners galore. I'd rather see management do nothing than do something for the sake of saying they did something.

Lets be honest there's no such thing as a stop gap player . That's just an excuse some have come up with to defend Burke's brutal UFA signings .

Gardiner won a spot but that din't stop Komi from taking up a valuable roster spot . Instead all Gardiner winning a spot did was push players like Franson to the press box .

Name a time that Burke stuck a kid who was ready in the minors in favor of a vet? If you think Kadri was ready last year, then you have bigger issues.

Look at Gardiner, Frattin, and the time they traded Beachemin because Aulie was ready. If Aulie hadn't regressed by apparently 'expecting' a spot waiting for him, he would have played all of last year too.

No vet is actually standing in the way of any kid - but the kids have to outplay the vets and earn a spot - which is exactly the way it should be.

If Kadri can not outplay MacAuther - then he shouldn't be there. Period.

Had it not been for a UFA signing - many thought he was overpaid - Burke would never have been able to fleece the Ducks out of both Lupul and Gardiner

Maybe Burke didn't try to overpay the 3rd/4th line player is a good thing. I would rather let's the kids from Marlies to fight the limited spots and wait for next season after some of the bad contracts are done. I checked capgeek and Leafs would have 30 millions to spend next season.

This was pretty much a perfect July 1st. He's sticking to his guns, signing some good RFA's like Frattin, Rynnas and Hamilton and signing great bottom 6 forward depth to a great term and contract, in McClement.

Casual Leafs fans don't know **** about how things work in the NHL. Count me one of the few who thinks Burke has something planned that's going to be huge and he's just biding his time.

Only other thing I wanted to see today was Kule locked up.

Burke has made his worst mistakes during the UFA frenzy and he could learn something here from Snow. Maybe he did this year - we will see.
I completely agree. Boyes grew up watching the Leafs and at 1 million would have been a good signing. I expect he has a bounce back year much like Lupul did last year. I think Snow has done a good job in the UFA market this year, and I generally don't like anything Snow does, other than drafting Tavares, which was a no brainer.

"Stop gaps" were around long before Burke was with the Leafs.

Like the RFA signings and McClement addition (Not too many NHL quality veteren PK specialists hanging around the Marlies these days.)

Vacancies:

#1 centre: Internal (Kadri, Colborne)
#6/7 Defenseman: Internal (Holzer, Blacker, Komisarek)
Goalie: Scrivens or trade
Bigger Forwords: External /Trade

Frattin probably wont be ready for camp so maybe D'Amigo gets a shot
Kulemin might not be signed.

Lupul -- Kadri -- Kessel
JVR -- Grabovski -- MacArthur
D'Amigo -- McClement -- Kulemin
Komarov -- Steckel -- Brown

extras...Connolly, Lombardi, Bozak ????????????
